The Story of the Super Mario Land Series

Happy New Year! After my deep dive into Punch-Out, I wanted to take a step back and do something a little less intense. The Super Mario Land games are some of my favorites. I was surprised that there aren't too many videos talking about the games, so I guess that's where I come in. Hope you enjoy!

Some of my greatest memories of gaming as a kid comes from these 3 games. These 3 games was always my favorite next to Metroid 2 and the PokéMon series.

I could never get into SML. It felt like a generic bootleg/knockoff. I guess because it was made by another team and even though they knew the limitations of the system, it was still new.

SML2 was an example of how you know the limitations and surpass them. That felt a bit like a Mario World ripoff, but was fun and worked well.

Of the 3 Mario Land games, Super Mario Land is my favorite, and Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 is my next favorite because it marked the beginning of the Wario Land series. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is my least favorite in the series. While it does have nicer looking sprites and feels more like a Super Mario game, you need to realize that the first Super Mario Land game, looks pretty close to Super Mario Bros, the first Super Mario game.

The problem is that the first game feels like a super cheap bootleg and the third game is a wario game. I really want them to remake Mario and two but then I feel like they would have to do the whole trilogy and th😊ey don't really make a package

I only payed Wario Land out of these 3 and it gave me a distinct feeling I had never gotten from another game. Something about the music and graphics I can't discribe it

This might be a hot take but I wish they made a true sequal to Mario Land 2, I love the Wario Land games but I wish we also had a real Mario Land 3

Mario was a good start to get Gameboy there but thanks to Pokémon that made Gameboy even more popular.

Super mario land 3 doesn't even have Mario in it?? It's mainly Wario... I've played The Wario series starting with 3 then 2 and then after 4. 4 I really liked 3 was is a Classic.

Really weird instantly recognizing some of the gameplay in this video that I literally haven't seen since I was a young child (and I'm pretty sure the parts I recognize are all from early into the game, since I almost never got past the first couple levels of my NES or Gameboy games). edit: Yeah, looking at the worlds I only recognize levels from the first 2 lol. Never made it to the China levels, and I don't think I made it to the Easter Island stuff either.

I borrowed Super Mario Land 2 so many times from a friend. That game was awesome. The ending theme to Super Mario Land 1 is like the end credits to my childhood. I can still remember beating the game for the first time.

Super Mario 3-D land has a random UFO flying in the sky. Probably a reference to the original Mario land.

That marks Wario's 1st appearance in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins leads to the mainline Super Mario games spinoff called Wario Land and Warioware games beginning with Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.

These three games are still some of my top favourite ever games.

I had a NES, and enjoyed it, but the Gameboy was always king for me.
My one came with Tetris AND Super Mario Land.
Of course I had to get the sequels when they came out too.

When I play them today, I'm back to being 6 years old and on a long car journey listening to the soundtrack through headphones whilst playing through an illuminated magnifier.

Great times and great games.

They still win for me with nostalgia alone.

I can probably still hum the theme songs in the first two games yet havnt played them for 20 years+ excellent music.

I Was born in '86 and I liked playing Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land: 6 Golden Coins on the Nintendo Game Boy. And I never owned Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, the latter of which would later be spin-off into its own sub-series Wario Land.

I have good memories playing those games. I beat Super Mario Land on the Game Boy Color in 2002, and I still play Super Mario Land.
