Is it me, or are cars becoming simulators?

We are not in 1992 anymore, with the regulations this was possible to make. A manual V10 N/A with 1600kg would have been better? Yes, but you need to pay than much much more and than that would have been the problem. We need to accept these new cars or go and buy something from the past, simple.

This is exactly the kind of car Harry Metcalfe was talking about in his latest video; and the kind of damage vehicles like this are doing to the enthusiast. People are losing interest in new cars. I'm one of them, and there are many. The best cars ever made were built years ago. This new G90 M5 and the Mercedes W206 C63 are poster-children for how disappointing the future is.

BMW cars are so dead! Ever since they bought out the X6 they've been awful!!! I used to love them. Used to have an E30 touring.

So the same person who worked on the front of the M4/3 also worked on the back of this car then, giving it a poo shoot..

Can't wait to watch this, but I figured the M5 now makes the best sense as a direct competitor to the RS5 👌 we'll see how they stack up head to head!

This isn't a car review, it's a dude reading a marketing blob from BMW.

BMW ruined the new 5 series. It looks appalling.

Oh. Yeah good marketing ... In about 15-20 years F1 drivers will be replced with IA...

Much rather have the 550i touring of the previous gen.

I could care less about these overwrought, bloated moneysinks; but Tom Ford is such a great presenter (those cuts! that amazing history of the original M5 Touring!) that I watched this on top of the M5 saloon vid.

Following on from Tom’s comment about the fact you might as well go full EV, please do me a huge favour and race one of these against an I5 M60. Despite being just over 100bhp down, I’m really curious to see how that shakes out. The new M5 is an unfortunate exercise in compliance and regulations - they make it this way because they have to, not because they want to.

Anyone who has a high HP car knows that you need to get the oil up to temp before you hammer it. So to say you can use EV mode and hammer it when you get out of the neighborhood is not good for the longevity of the engine.

Ugly inside and outside, it's as heavy as Rolls Royce Ghost for crying out loud - it has zero to do with sports car, it's fast in a straight line and that's about it... I am sure there is a market for it and I could have not been further away from it.

Touring is way better looking. And I also wanna say ty for such a well explained and detailed review of the car. It was the perfect amount of witty and science and car facts. Been loving your reviews.

Is this M5 heavy? YES! Is this a bad thing? YES! But what many people fail to understand was that BMW had to choose between HEAVY M5 AND NO M5. Because a pure ICE 700hp M5 is close to 300g/CO2 and no way in hell you can sell a car like this in 2025

Can Tom's reviews get any better?? Probably not. Even makes the unfortunate looking least appealing M Car in 30 years an entertaining review, good job !!! (I did like the way half the review was of the 1992 car , as its the only way to get people excited about the video, and maybe gives BMW a kick in the bottom to make something people actually want rather than just accept, very clever !! Maybe next time a dummies version for BMW marketing team = WE... WANT....LESS.. BUTTONS...LESS COST...LESS HP... MORE FUN... PLEASE .. TAKE... STUFF... OFF ... CAR... NOT ... ADDING ... MORE JUNK!!) BMW remind me of my 5 year old playing with lego, they make something thats pretty good , but then coat it in accessories that make it totally impractical, break and look like something only a mother could tolerate.
