3 Reasons Why YOU Should NOT Go To The STURGIS RALLY

I'll argue each point in turn.
It's too expensive, is it really? Yea you can break the bank. But if you're careful and aware Sturgis really isn't that expensive in comparison to other vacation options. My total accommodations expense was 1000$ including per rally. Food is hit and miss. There are quality food options available for a good price.
Too crowded, again a misnomer. Yes there are a lot of bikes during the rally. But the rest of the summer you get CARS on those roads. And there are work arounds to minimize traffic, GO EARLY in the Morning. Plus ,which road has the most crashes? I 90 does ,every year. The crowds in town really aren't that bad. The rally is always over reported. Any given day there might be 80k actually there. Go to Disney world and wait 3 hrs for a single ride.
The rally isn't The Rally anymore. Ofcourse not, nothing is the same of what it was. Everything evolves. The rally has changed many times. Is it more corporate? Sure. So is everything else. Is it vendor centric? But it is also a showcase for product innovation. So I do enjoy the vendors, but again if one is not careful you can easily spend Juniors colloge fund and make your Motorcycle visible from space and heard in South Africa. The Rally will be what you make it, good bad or indifferent.

I went to high school in Sturgis and I still have family there,,,i stopped going to the run about 40 yrs ago because of 1 reason and 1 reason only,,,it turned into RUB central

The best way around some of the problems you mentioned is to take an RV with your group

I was there in 2023 and the street food vendors priced themselves out of it... We are talking $19.00 for a oversize brat(I suspect they did this for the just keep the buck so really $20) I can say I looked but didn't buy at all... basically nobody I saw bought anything to eat. The plus is if you want to see new things, you can see them there.

Born and raised in Sturgis. The vendors may raise the taxes but the city and state tax does not change. Most of the revenue now doesn't stay locally, only a small portion is remains. The rest of the state gets to reap the benefit. I totally agree about the brewery, not my style and prices are outrageous year round. I still recommend people check the black hills out a few weeks before the rally. In my opinion Iron Mountain road is better then Tail or the Dragon. Pre 1995 was a blast and very few cops, once WWF and famous stars started showing up is when it became commercialized.

I went to Sturgis in 2011 and once was enough for me. I got buddies that go every single year and that is the only trip they take. I tell people that if you love motorcycles then Sturgis is a must to go at least once, just to experience it. I thought it was very expensive, but at that time I was also only making $10hr a my job and was used to a jack and coke only costing me a few bucks at my local bar, not the $12 it was costing me at Sturgis. I think after a full week including gas, food, drinks, entertainment, paying for the Buffalo Chip which I wouldn't recommend it was terrible I spent around $2,000. Personally I'd rather spend $2,000 and take a 2 week long motorcycle camping trip and see new places than go to Sturgis every year. I am wanting to go back but not during the rally for there is some truly beautiful motorcycle riding there.

I'm from MA, and visited Tampa FL recently, and no place around Tampa had good beers like New England either... I settled for less, and still had a good time, but just saying. Come visit New England, VT and MA, has some of the best beers in the country if that is your thing. If you like wine, I think CA is still the best for that.

Twenty years ago I went to the Sturgis Ralley with Mike Corbin (Of Corbin Seats) and stayed at the place he rented. And, I wasn't riding a Harley...but a Honda Gold Wing. Nobody said a thing.

First off you're dead wrong about cost of hotels. I've been 3 times yes the first time I paid $300/night, second time $138/night and this last time $148/night. If you want to pay $500/night the choice is yours.
The second time I made the reservations the night before I got there at the Grand Gateway which is where I stayed the first time not knowing any better. Nobody says you have to pay exorbitant prices for food but the choice is yours. You guys are blowing this way out of proportion.

My first trip to Sturgis was in 1990(50th anniv.)stayed Eagles Landing campgrnd) 7days had a blast , rode from Mo.spent 600.00 .second time 1998 off season had a blast (motel 35.00night)2 days , 3rd time 1999 ok but too much commercialized 4th time 2003 (7days outside buffalo chip but w/chip acess-700.00 per person - spent over 2000 . 00 ) again from M😢o . Had good time w/ 13 people. 4th and last time 2007 in a big truck spent 1 night very little money (it sucked) vowed to never go back too expensive and if a motorcycle rally was meant to be a family affair then motorcycles would have 4 doors . I agee with your analogy 110% DONT GO!!!

First time at the rally for 2023….rode 1600 miles one way on a bar hopper….shocked by the amount of trailered baggers it wasn’t what I would have expected. I showed up early so I could do the rides before all the foot draggers yellow line huggers showed up….the concerts were good…but after a week it was all the same..got tiring and boring…I didn’t think it was that great to be honest lots of hype “Disneyland for poser bikers “and I will never go again….not worth a second go around another disappointment was I have an older model “hardly dangerous”and while at exit 55 there was nothing for my bike….
Can’t afford a new M8 motorcycle which is what it felt like a new bagger rally.
Not wanting to offend anyone just my opinion from my experience…I’m more of a rider then hang around partier I guess…

And I found out regular budwieser is called “bud hard”…..I don’t drink bud and I’m not into ultra watered down “what’s the point of drinking” lite beer it’s all that was served downtown…which I thought was boycotted?
Anyways where I come from we don’t drink lite beer so I had the hard beer…

How anyone could watch this and NOT know that this was totally created tongue-in-cheek is beyond me! LOLOLOL! Great video with some solid points to consider when attending the rally, particularly the challenge brought by some of the roads out there. Definitely not a place for new riders to learn, with all of the bikes on the roads.

I've never been there before but there's no surprising about this event has became more capitalized,commericalize corporate, watered-down and modified. Everything or everywhere used to be good,fun and organic back in the good old days until become so watered-down,modified,capitalized,commercialized and corporate which is straight sad,messed-up and BS if you ask me. I have been to the rally a handful of times, and one year I went the week before as the vendors were setting out. Totally different vibe! Got to enjoy the town a little better!
