Not a fan of this. They aren't wanting to promote mixed, they're wanting to get the singles stars to play it the week before the actual tournament. If they really wanted to promote mixed, they'd put more prize money into the standard mixed tournament. This is just an exhibition of singles players. I'm honestly surprised they're not making them wear mics.

What a ridiculous concept. Pointless cash grab, Mickey Mouse idea. Utter insult to doubles players who rely on these big purses to make a living. To not only exclude them but then pump up the prize money on top of that only inflates the disrespect. I can see this lasting just this year and doomed to fail. The continuous abridging of the scoring in doubles is also pathetic and cheap. I can see why it would appeal to the likes of Kyrgios, and others who have no appetite for stamina or attrition and want quick flashy T20 cricket style play that they falsely think appeals to the masses. It won’t to genuine tennis fans. Lazy, short-sighted idea from whomever approved this garbage.

This is disrespectful to the sport and actual doubles players. They barely make money as is, now they’re being robbed of their chance to play, so big names can put on an exhibition-style tournament. It wreaks of a headline/ money grab for the US Open. Just terrible.

They've effectively eliminated doubles players because teams are only allowed to sign in with singles ranking and not many doubles players have singles ranking. Mixed doubles shouldn't be classed as a slam, it's an exhibition now. Exhibition slam.

This is wrong info, it's not just 2 wild card teams, it's actually 8 wild card teams to give attractive pairings and/or doubles specialist without a decent singles ranking the chance to compete as well (such as Errani/Vavassori who've already signed up) I'm curious whether more established doubles players (such as Siniakova, Krejcikova, Siegemund, Thompson) will try to get in. Some are probably torn on whether they should boycott this.

Think of tennis as a product. The US open is a business so why would they not use their best assets? Doubles is just not popular if it was a stand alone event from singles it would not survive. Who wants to watch unknown doubles players anyway?

I would've preferred to see it as an exhibition event, as it's sad to see doubles specialists left out in the cold and not getting a share of the purse and a title opportunity, but I guess it's down to viewership and revenue as always. Nevertheless, I'm rubbing my hands with glee at the possibilty of Sinner facing off against Kyrgios, albeit doubles.

Well I am a Raducanu fan but the amount of coverage she gets from the BBC and wider is a bit uncomfortable. I know there are a few lower ranked female players on the list but ER seems to get in everywhere, not sure it is good for all around ability to compete at the highest level.

What’s their fee for participating in the mixed doubles? I suspect the payment for just participate is very generous, why would they do it to other wise? I mean slams are all about preserving energy for the biggest names

Mixed doubles don't give ATP/WTA points, so the conflict should be significantly smaller.

Shame they are not including more doubles specialists. I think the decision is a little disrespectful to the doubles game and panders to the celebrity hype.

This will be great fun but it should be an exhibition and not a grand slam. Too short and not enough content for it to be a grand slam and warrent the $1,000,000 prize money.
