Ansible is one step up from bash honestly

Having the control node on the cloud is risky since it becomes a honeypot with your ssh keys. Better to use a local machine as the control node.

Please, please don't use Ansible for infrastructure as code. It is great for managing multiple servers configs, but not infra as code. Use terraform for that tasks, and even terraform and ansible together.

My workplace made the mistake of using Ansible for infra-as-code, and it made the infra impossible to refactor. Its not declarative like a manifest file, if you take out a task, Ansible does not track state and take out that cloud resource for you. You will need to create another task to do the same, which ends up being a pain after a couple of infra design changes.

Ansible is like bash with community libraries that can run on multiple servers. It is not truely declarative like Terraform or Nixos, because everything you put in is run sequentially. Use it for its proper use case of provisioning applications and config onto existing servers or servers managed by Terraform and you will be happy
