fr i speak the teeniest bit of chinese (like a preschool level) and i went to taiwan - i could get very little done w just chinese, and usually when people would speak english to me i wouldn’t understand lol – but then i realized that if i spoke english more in the pattern of how they spoke it to me, it actually helped a ton!

hearing shit come out of my mouth that way felt kinda patronizing and racist at first but it legit helped me communicate so much more haha
