I love you for taking care of momma. Just a warning, if she was happy, she will come back next year. Stock up on birdseed. You might want to get some cracked corn to mix with the seed.

Mother geese really are amazing. I remember finding a stray gosling while walking in a park one day. An hour in, and we found its mother and other goslings swimming in the lake. As soon as she saw us with her baby, she stopped at the side of the bank and patiently waited for us to return her baby. The experience was magical.

I'm just going to say the laws that protect them are a joke. You can destroy the nest and they just give you a slap on the wrist and maybe pay a small penalty if you are caught. They call it a "take." Corporate office parks pay wildlife trappers to kill these geese all the time. I love these geese and understand they have to be protective since they come from the arctic. Where arctic foxes live.

This year, our local crow couple built their nest in a tree right in front of our neighbour's house, very close to our house. We could all just look right in and see what was going on. We humans got very invested in their well-being, giving papa food and water to bring to mama on the nest, and then to his four babies too. We were all so excited when we first saw the babies. When they fledged and were learning to fly, only three of the four survived, sadly. We buried the one who didn't make it, and we feed the remaining three and their parents every day.

With all wild animals, we are mere guests in their space--their forest "home." We should show enough grace to NOT destroy their home nor disturb them. If we cannot help them, then we humans cannot claim to be of higher intelligence.

Why would anyone consider them a nuisance? Why don’t people understand animals have the same right to be here just like we do. It’s up to us to show love and respect. We as a race are destroying their natural habitats so it’s more imperative now that we learn to coincide with one another. And if you have a problem with that then you’re the nuisance!

I live near to a park with a lake and the geese that live there are the nicest, sweetest and most peaceful animals I‘ve ever seen. They never attack people even when the have goslings, they just chill around you and walk away when you‘re coming too close. They have a watchful eye on dogs but I’ve only ever seen a goose hiss at them once. They‘re just so sweet I love them so much!
