Kinda would have wanted to see The Road (Im a McCarthy glazer) on here, to a lesser extent maybe some other novels that capture contemporary issues of the times, like American Psycho and Fight Club. Overall good list.

idk if you've ever read it but The Nightingale by Kristian Hannah has changed the way I view fighting against the system and the survivorship of being in a war

I just added 10 books to my reading list, but why are most of them so short ? 200 pages at most, is this a modern thing too ?

I love this topic for a video! It isn't very long, but I would put forth The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle as worth considering for a future classic. I need to read it again! It's great that you enjoy/appreciate quality fiction! Do you ever enjoy beta reading new literary fiction manuscripts for up and coming authors?? I'm working on a manuscript/novel currently, and I would love more feedback/constructive criticism from readers who are well read within the literary fiction genre. 📚

I also believe that Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" has potential to become a classic in the future - my old teacher also studied this in university for his degree. I could also imagine "The Perks of being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky being studied in schools in the future.

I refuse to recommend A Little Life since it's truly just torture porn. Sorry to all those affected by this crime against humanity, but it's true.

I read The Hunger Games last year for the first time, at 60yrs! I devoured the trilogy, Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes is on request from my local library now. Powerful stuff indeed.
Some of these books were on my "to read in the near future" list, many more will be added. A few will be added to my "read your shelves" challenge .

I mean maybe it isn’t considered a “modern” one anymore BUT WHERE IS HARRY POTTER - she asked calmly.

Because it’s still a phenomenon and there is no way these books aren’t going to be studied by the historians, scientists etc.

I think it's safe to say that The Secret History is a potential front runner for becoming a classic as well. It just has that feeling about it. Same thing with Harry Potter. A lot of classics have that element of controversy to them that gets some of them banned in certain places, and Harry Potter has already done that. Genuinely, it's such a good series as most anybody who reads is already aware of.

I think as it gets older, Percy Jackson definitely is a contender for becoming a classic as well!

i vividly remember learning about the hunger games. we were waiting for the bell to ring for our 6th grade social studies class and one of my friends told our table she had just finished the best book ever. within a week we had all read it and we were anxiously awaiting the release of catching fire. now as an adult i took the release day for sunrise on the reaping off the second it was announced.

I know its a graphic novel but Maus by Art Spiegelman. I know it was published in the 80s/90s but its become extremely popular and relivant now that there is push back on reading innacurate ww2 fiction like the boy in the striped pajamas. Its been banned in many schools despite the fact that it teaches middle grades to young adults very accurate hiastory in based on a real survivor. It should be propped up more as one of the best ww2 books of the modern day and should absolutely be required reading in schools and replace the boy in the striped pajamas completely

My favorite thing about the hunger games is that it wasn't actually intended for younger audiences. It was written as a very serious social critique of US "democracy" and includes a number of political and philosophical themes that Suzanne Collins is actually very educated on.

For me 'The invisible life of Addie La Rue' should definitely become a classic; the way the story is told and the whole message of the book is so powerful it makes you want to laugh cry and stare at the wall in silence at the end. I really could write an essay on its significance! to anyone reading definitely check it out!!
