Amazingly stupid media. Look how dumb these reporters are. Look at the OBVIOUS legend that shows that the map is a POPULATION DENSITY map. Yet they report that it's a probability map. IDIOTS.

Societies have to build within their means. The 150 year "big one" is long overdue, and we have not built for it because it has been cost-prohibitive to do so; everything is built to survive the 1933 Long Beach earthquake, which is doable, and by world standards actually quite good, though we often see it fall short during substantial temblors like the 1994 Northridge earthquake. When she talks about retrofitting, she's talking about that, not the impending big one, an event for which we can't really be prepared structurally. We can, of course be prepared personally for the loss of home and the temporary interruption of utility services with things like tents, emergency power generation, and a stockpile of food and water, as well as other necessities.
