Along the ancient silk road the burials of extremely large Celtics with red hair wearing tartans thousands of years old have been discovered. Most burials contain their wives who were invariably oriental. Even then men in search of wealth could find no woman of their own kind to venture so far. The tartans found were almost exclusively maroon with blue stripes.

Here I've been feeling bad about myself not knowing what my ancestors tartan looked like only to learn it never was anything more than a marketing ploy. I'm so glad, now I won't feel guilty wearing random plaid designs, thinking I'm somehow disloyal to whatever I ought to stick with.

Greetings from Missouri, USA. I recently discovered my 6x Great-Grandparents were from Renfrew (surnames are Wallace and Sleeth). I've always loved tartans (as my closet attests) , and I enjoyed this interesting and informative video. I just subscribed to your channel and I look forward to viewing more of your content. So tartan wasnt a way of Clans to identify one another !.
My Clan tartan is McGreggor tartan. As a white (a McGreggor codename, during the "outlaw" period), im proud to wear it. Failing this for some reason, i think i can wear Hamilton (my middle name) tartan. Having achoice of such striking apparel is such a privilage and every time i have a kilt on, i feel amazing, and it shows all over my smug wee face.
Thank u for another eye opening video.

I’m kinda at a mystery, I always thought most of my heritage was German but after my DNA came back it was 43% Scottish. Now I’m going to have to do some ancestry digging to find out who was the Scott in our bloodline. I have searched the male side and most of that is Welsh, English Norwegian German, so it must be in the women’s line. I feel a bit naked I’m Scottish without a tartan.

Modern tatrans were reinvented in the Victorian age because of the efficiency of the prohibition bby the German kings of England. After having to fight against two rebellions by the son and grandson of James II. When it became again rashionsble, noone knew what yhe original tartan looked like for each clan so they just reinvented them.

Tartans are a money making gimmick. Originally clans didn't have their own tartans. If you want one, just choose the one you like, or if you have enough money you can have one designed for you.
