uhh. did you see the bugs on their hands?
ОтветитьActually, AFAIK, the Portuguese sailors back in 1500 were looking for an alternative way to get to India. So as soon as they arrived at the Brazilian coast, they called the indigenous people as "índios" In Portuguese, we say "índio" when referring to indigenous people, and sometimes this gets translated as "indian" into English simply because of phonetic resemblance. It's still a false cognate, but it's generally accepted due to this historical fact.
Ответить..and I agree with you "but" I'm sorry that's not a very good excuse. That was some time ago (shall I say centuries?) YEAR 2012 and I believe all educated people should know the differences by now (especially Google employees since getting a job there is not an easy task ^_^ )
ОтветитьThe fault was the Portuguese, when they arrived here, they called these people of "Indians"!
ОтветитьNice project and initiative but "Indians themselves"? What is that? we're talking about the Amazons. Mate, I understand you're a geek person behind a computer (like me) but next time do your homework before talking. Get a book they're not "Indians" they're "indigenous people/tribes". Indians come from India.
