Conversation with Hanna Rullmann, Faiza Ahmad Khan, Domenico Mangano, Marieke van Rooy and Dr. Bernhard Forchtner.

The Jan van Eyck Academie kindly invites you to the second event of Environmental Identities – a series of public conversations, screenings and other online and offline events, which pursuit a multi-layered understanding of the co-defining relation between self- and social identity and the natural environment.

Preceeded by a week-long online screening of the videos Habitat 2190 (2019) by Hanna Rullmann & Faiza Ahmad Khan, and Oysters for Naturalization (2019) by Domenico Mangano & Marieke van Rooy, the conversation will explore how the connection between natural environment and social/national identity provides an arena for the inclusion and exclusion of certain bodies and subjectivities, both human and non-human. Topics of discussion will revolve around the “weaponization” of nature; climate denialism, national sovereignty and transnational challenges of climate change; the relation between the supposed and perceived threats of foreign species, races and cultures; and others.
