DIY Paper Hyacinth Flowers

i have a crush on this girl (i know its mutual, but she doesnt know i know). her favorite flowers are purple hyacinth, and i'm making her some of these to ask her out because they aren't in season! thank you for the great tutorial :)

If I use construction paper for the flowers, will they hold up over time? Does thinner paper unravel more easily than card stock?
