My first thought was how much would you spend on a deli slicer. Then I looked it up and realized there are some very reasonable options. Thanks for the video!
ОтветитьAre you going to do ham deli meat?
ОтветитьNot only expensive but full of garbage
ОтветитьTurkey thick, roast beef thin.
ОтветитьMy husband hates turkey deli meat, I made this home version and he absolutely loved it. This version is juicer and more flavorful, and it makes me happy that I know exactly what’s in it.
ОтветитьUse a mandolin you don't need to buy a professional meat slicer
ОтветитьWhen comparing the cost difference between the precooked breast and the homemade breast, you also have to consider the cost of the brine ingredients added to the cost of the raw meat which will add at least another $2.00. That makes the precooked breast a MUCH better value.
ОтветитьGreat stuff, but where to get raw turkey breast?
ОтветитьYou need to shop somewhere else if turkey lunch meat is $15 a pound. I realize I live out in Amish country but our little town markets sell turkey breast lunch meat for $5 a pound. I prefer cooking the turkey and slicing it myself to avoid all the additives but still
ОтветитьAwesome video earned my
Subscription! I just bought a meat slicer and came across your channel ( ended up buying the same slicer too on accident 😂)
$14.99 per pound? For lunch meat? Never have. Never will. It had better bathe in mustard, dust with pepper and herbs and climb onto the bread by itself. And sing "Old Man River" in the process.
As a former del clerk and manager, its not the number of 'thin' slices. Its having to virtually waterboard the customer to find out which thin they want. "Thin" can be any where from shredded to bits to thicker than a nickel. But my all time favorite is "deli sliced". WTF, people?? They see a plastic box with a label on pintrest and they think its an industry standard. Every internet trend was anathema.
Keep spreading knowledge and skills. My sanity thanks you.
You explained the butchers knot better than Scott Rea. From someone who is knot dyslexic and flunked boy scouts.
ОтветитьLabor isn't cheap...😅
Ответить4.79$/lb for cooked turkey at costco? I just checked it, the cheapest I found is 54.99cad (40.64usd) for 3 pounds. That's 18.33/lbs. (13.54usd).
On the other hand, i found deli turkey meat at 8.99/lbs (6.64 usd) .... go figure.
2 questions how does it come back out of the freezer does it just fall apart and also do you notice that the deli slice Turkey is so much larger than everything else why is that
ОтветитьWhy does the receiving end look like a woman's ass?
ОтветитьThis guy is like Arthur Fiedler with all the hand movements. Starting to get seasick.
ОтветитьI have noticed several videos on social media where people have bought meat from supermarkets where the stated weight was well under the weight on the label, yet the price was for the incorrect high weight. I would suggest checking the weight of the meat or anything really and make sure you get what you pay for.
I have gone sofar as to take a 1lb scale weight to check the scales i could access in my local stores, all the scales where fine but i will continue to be a paranoid SOB.
Use the meat slicer to cut beef for korean BBQ :)
Great video, take care, God bless one and all.
thin or shaved
ОтветитьI like shaved on turkey and roast beef
ОтветитьI just use cheap deli meat its 4 or 5$ a lb all work done, you know you can add seasonings to sammich aswell, around holidays they even sell precut hams and turkeys where you thow it in the oven and thats even cheaper at 2$ a lb
ОтветитьIf you really want to wind up your favourite deli store ask them to cut your meat 1/2 millimetre thick don't take no for an answer and as an added bonus tell them they don't even have to tickle the meat first.
ОтветитьTeam thin
ОтветитьHonestly, I just buy a whole turkey once in awhile and do this. I slice up all of the breast meat for sandwiches. The rest (thighs, drumsticks, wings) we eat for dinner and lunch. It's cheap and makes for several great meals. No need to wait for thanksgiving. I do the same with whole chickens. Chicken breast makes even better sandwiches (IMHO) and at around $0.89/pound, is a much better value.
ОтветитьI’m surprised almost no one has mentioned that you could do this for insanely cheap. During the pandemic I learned how to part out whole chickens, so when Thanksgiving came around we got whole turkeys for less than a dollar a pound, and parted them out the same way. Two parts of which were the very same breasts you’re showing here. I’d say $0.50-$1 per pound would blow that comparison out of the water. Plus I used all the other parts of those birds for incredibly wonderful meals. I highly recommend going this route to anyone, especially following the mission of cheaper meat by parting out your own cuts! 👍
ОтветитьDon’t know if you’re reading these comments still but I’m looking to buy this to spice meat alternatives mixed with real meat. Gotta best inflation somehow!!
ОтветитьWhat dial number do you have the cut on for the home made and do you slice length or width wise?
ОтветитьCan i slice in my food processor?
ОтветитьI’d much rather go the homemade route…if you plan accordingly, those two days wouldn’t interfere with your eats.
ОтветитьYou sound like the Billy mase of lunch meat
Ответитьyou do not need a slicer unless your making a dozen sandwiches at a time.. I always get the Kirkland and hand slice it with a good slicing knife.. thinly and its easy peasy. Pre slicing it dries it out IMO.
ОтветитьI discovered the Costco turkey breast a year ago. Bought a slicer (just like yours) and went thru the same process. A much better value. Since then I've home roasted eye of round (again Costco), and sliced it for roast beef. Again, a much better value. Keep going!
ОтветитьSeems unfair to compare Kirkland to Boars Head for pricing. I can get store brand deli turkey for less than $6 a pound.
ОтветитьI'm an engineer and the continuous cooking he claims after taking it out at 155 is bs. I'm sure the turkey isn't exothermic. If there is extra heat in there it would be measured by its temperature.
ОтветитьI hate the sound coming out of that slicer 😖
ОтветитьWould of thought the raw unseasoned turkey would of been cheaper then the cooked seasoned turkey.
ОтветитьTurkeys go on sale dirt cheap for Thanksgiving. It wouldn't be difficult to cut one up to get boneless breast and thigh meat to save even more on lunch meat.
ОтветитьBummer is processed meat is horrible for health.
Ответить“Wow, that is an expensive sandwich” 😂
Exactly, we haven’t even introduced the cost of all the other ingredients, even if we put more effort into it lol 😂
blind taste test from someone who doesn't know what is different about the options would have been interesting
ОтветитьI just bought raw Turkey Breast at $2.99 per Lb.
ОтветитьThank you so much. As you add new videos, please consider creating a deli meat playlist so we can find them all in one place.
ОтветитьHello Butcher Wizard, I bought a foldable Obsta meat slicer ($89) because I wanted to make sure I would use it consistently before putting a lot of money into a higher grade slicer. Does the meat slicer you linked make shaved meat slices? I'm definitely a thin slice person. Heritage makes shaved ribeye that I use for Philly cheesesteaks. I would like to take your chuck roll video and make a bunch of shaved meat but I need a slicer that can handle it. Thank you for your helpful videos.
ОтветитьI found 1 or 2 healthier brands for sandwich meat but beacuse it's healthier the amount I get for what it costs is comical. For all of you who have been using circular slicers for years and are experienced with making your own sandwich meat, if you love yours please link it. It'll need to be one strong slicer to put up with how I"ll need to use it. I"m gonna try this one by borlebbi that he recommends first.
ОтветитьWhether I buy deli meat from the store or make it at home, I always do/get it "wafer thin" - so thin you can almost see through it, but still fully intact and not falling apart.
ОтветитьJust smoked a turkey yesterday. Bought it for $.79 a pound. Slicing today.
ОтветитьSave money on sliced meat by buying this expensive but poorly made Chinese meat slicer!!!1111
ОтветитьI did this with 1 chicken breast also added some onion and garlic powder to the brine. Need to use less salt next time because the size of the chicken breast is a lot smaller than a turkey breast so it came out a little too salty but still delicious added to other ingredients in a sandwich. Will do this again. It was an easy, tasty and cost effective recipe. Thanks.
ОтветитьI like this method just remember your brine adds to the price to
