Can i use a SanDisk - Ultra Fit 512GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive in the SHIELD TV Pro 2019 ?

Shows just how ahead the Shield is when a 2015 device outpaces the newer Stream boxes. Nvidia is the new Intel, little to no difference between generations.

were do you get theses emulators and roms from getting my first shield next week upgradeing from the fire cube.

I don't see where you can turn of AI it has basic but no way to turn it off completely. Only thing I don't like is the remote if it's off all you have to do is touch it and the shield turns on very annoying.

If I want to get one for use as a Plex Server, which should I buy?

Today I got one but I will return it. The Shield only displays regular HD 1080×1920 settings and refuses to support 2k 1140×2560. Now I really wonder if Nvidia sells AI Upscaling as original UHD? Upscaling is in fact faking a higher resolution. It also has a big problem playing files from USB. I couldnt open my Sandisk USB stick which is formatted in NTFS. The machine really dissapointed me after all the high rates. Besides, the image quality is nothing special, even below a 50$ video pc card. At 200 dollar you dont even get the standard, while the machine itself can't stand on its own.

The AI upscaling is very impressive when playing old movies that have low resolution

I won't buy it just because of the big Netflix button on their remote
control "instead of a favorite program configurable button" is forcing
users to accidentally press the knowing button almost every time trying

My 2015 Shield TV has been awesome. It's great that it keeps receiving updates. I purchased the 2019 Pro for $162 a few days ago.

This is what every company does with everything they sell us dummies.. yet we keep on buying and buying their crap.
They get us hooked and like bulls with a ring through our noses they slowly tug on those nose rings and we get pulled in.
Right now they are pushing 5 G. on us well truth is actually in reality 6 G is out already but only the super rich can afford it cause they pay millions per month to use it which us peons can’t afford right. I wont upgrade anything, they can shove it!!

Excellent review. The Upscaler makes it look like an old video. I'll stick with my old Nvidia unit.

Does your TV automatically turn on to the shield android tv, or do you have to turn on the tv and then change to the hdmi port that its connected to?

Typical Nvidia. Current Android TV boxes around S922X are closing the gap by offering excellent android gaming performance for half a price, typically around $100~$110. Or if you love a bit of tinkering, you can just save $$$ and buy the new Odroid-N2+ running at 2.4Ghz w/S922X for just $79 which gives you 190K in latest Antutu Benchmarks for Android 10. Newest upcoming AMLogic SoC(2021) will surely beat current Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 performance, at least in android gaming and retro gaming emulation.
Also, retro gaming emulation is way better supported on S922X CPU's than Nvidia Shield TV Pro specially for PS1/Gamecube emulation. See EmuELEC and Batocera projects.

this guy may need his eyes checked! The AI upscaling is worth the money and is a huge deal its the best upscaling that I have seen trust me its a big deal!!

A sad upgrade, yes. But as a new purchase, an absolute belter.

I believe the Shield is geared more for gaming than live tv, unless it's IPTV content. I've read comments the Shield doesn't stream Spectrum TV in the correct format.

Great review, I now know I should not get the latest Shield Pro 2019 edition. I was interested in the tube version as that seems like a good device for streaming but why can it not runt 64bit apps, that seems like a insane limitation in the hardware. I wonder what is the best Andriod TV device then.

Why does the cost say 349.00 now?

Seems like the Shield Pro is out of stock everywhere for at least the last month or more, and none available for sale at any of their retailers. I reached out to Nvidia and they didn't have an ETA. Any idea why only the standard one is available and not the Pro? Has Nvidia indicated to you why that product seems to be completely unavailable everywhere in North America?

Hi Lon. I recently got a WiFi 6 router and now my shield pro can’t see the 5g2 network. I also have the 2017 version and it sees all three networks the 2.4g 5g and 5g2 with the same WiFi settings. I get great speeds for streaming on the 2017 model on the 5g2 network (in which ax mode is enabled) but I have the 2019 model in the living room and want to steam there too. Do you know how I can get the shield pro to see the 5g2 network or have you heard of this issue? Thanks man.

Yep, too expensive, for what you get, and no new connections.
Like no SSD cards you can put into the Nvidia shield TV to have fast internal storage expension. M.2 or something. So this one I shall let pass me by.

But the new remote is superb. The old remote was literally crap.

Can you update a Dolby vision to the old unit?

Not impressed at all from Nvidia shield support. I purchased the TV box and game console in one. However, it's just a good TV box and of course the part of the gaming experience is terrible. You need the perfect connection with your router and my 59Mbit/s was not enough for gaming. The quality was changing all the time and the graphics were terrible. Also, I purchased a game that was advertised on shield for 50 quid and nvidia decided few weeks later to stop support it. So, when I contacted with the Nvidia customer service they suggested if I want to ask my money back from Steam. Many times I had to wait from servers to get connected in order to play a game. So, don't think that buying an overpriced Nvidia shield will give you a great experience for tv and gaming in the same time.

I just bought one...And I could never get it to stay on my wifi... Disconnects every 5 minutes...Piece of crap is going back to the store...

i dont think the shield pro was for ppl to upgrade from the last gen shield as nvidia still supports previous shields heavily but its more for the ppl who doesnt have a shield yet

I was afraid of exactly what you reviewed which is why I held back from purchasing a second one.
Other than game emulator don't forget STEAM games through NVIDIA GeForce which the latest games run pretty well. The SHIELD is a sleeper Android box, underestimated. Like you said, I really hope they develope a true upgraded box, not just the remote.
