Some people say kobun means soldier,. But the only translation I can get is it just means old writing XD

Having a curved knife fly straight is impressive in itself. Notice that most dedicated throwers are straight. CS all the way!

So this is for all the cold steel fans out there. I want to let you know about a recent response from cold steel. I had asked if there was a way I could purchase two new shafts for the boar spear and their response was sorry, but we can’t help you. I know that under Lynn Thompson’s control this would never happen. I’m not bragging, but I do have a very good collection of cold steals knives. I have spent thousands of dollars on their blades, you would be impressed. After receiving such a rude response it is now my mission to exploit and damn GSM. The new owner is a total douche bag who is out to ruin cold steel.🖕🖕🖕

I think five and a half Inches, is a great length, it is perhaps the ideal size, for a do it all knife,, I'm gonna get one of these soon, thanks for showing us this one.. 👍

Cool Knife Cold Steel used to be good bargaining good well made knives but now they're expensive as hell since Lynn sold the company but anyway nice reviews and you have a well-behaved husky!

Thank you for testing this knife. I was planning to get another master tanto but think the kobun size and weight makes it preferable as a defensive weapon. Also throwing it looks easier than the chunkier master tanto.

Only issue is the coldsteel securex sheaths are terrible. They dull the blade with every pass.

Tanto blades seem to be harder to stick when thrown,but you figured out the trick really quick ⚔️😎⚔️

For the money, one of the best knives out there IMHO.

I bought the first 1980 Cold Steel old style lock back Tonto Folders when they were San M and made in Nipon. I bought the first Spyderco knives too. I know great knives when I see them.

I got one ordered cannot wait to play with it I want it for bushcraft and camping. Chores. I love Japanese blades I own a live blade sword and a higonokami knife love the nostalgia with old blades like my Barlow pocket knives. I subscribe greetings from the uk 🇬🇧 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊

I bought a couple of them five years ago for around $25. If you are purchasing today at a price in the mid 30's, I would rather get the SRK or for $45 get the Recon tanto. Two much better choices for a survival knife!

Could you assist what is the sharpening angle of Kobun and Recon Tanto?

I think the Kobun would work for bushcraft, especially if the user has some knife skills/talent. I like the strong tip and the handle is grippy, even when wet. It is a great value at $34. Thanks Bryan.

Seems like a nice, versatile back up boot knife. Thin handle creates tradeoffs, but its a really good product from cold steel. No surprises there.

I live in Central America and I've been carrying this blade for about 3 years. Highly recommend it.

I've seen this knife around and I've considered buying it but the Aus8 steel puts me off. My SOG Seal Pup Elite in Aus8 goes well buts dulls quickly using it on wood or plastic cable ties. For the price it might be worth a another look.

Big fan of cold steel products. Definitely gonna have to add the Kobun to my collection. Super slicey dicey how I like my knives to be, and it's got that Kool factor.

There is a better Way to use a Firesteel with this Knife! There is the unsharpend Part of the Blade use it not scraping use it like you would lf you want to cut down your firesteel.Hope you understand what i want to say

i have 2 of these, one serrated one plain, i edc either one they are awesome proper low profile defensive blades.

I have a question if you could recommend me a good affordable boot knife but I’m looking for a clean boot knife with a good sheet what would your recommend

I really like Cold Steel products. I own different knives, from self defense ones, such as the Safe Maker 2 and the Super Edge, a bushcraft knife (Finn Hawk), to hunting knives like the Bird and Game. Every knife I have bought has been super sharp from the get go. Now I'm really interested in the Kobun, too.

I have one of the original Recon Tantos from Cold Steel. It came with a leather sheath. Still the best knife I have ever owned. Never sharpened it and still hair shaving sharp.

I don't blame you for not throwing that Randall.Great video good throwing.i throw just about everything myself even some cold steel pocket knives .My son makes knives as a hobby we throw them then we see how it does in the kitchen .After we clean it lol

where is GI Tanto video ?

Love the Kobun, I bought 2 of them I was so impressed with the feel. Light weight, fast in the hand, I found them to be acceptably sharp. The handle is a joy, the knife feels very secure when holding it. And it just feels to be the right size. My only wish is that I would of liked to see it come with a steel point on the pommel. And the Securex Sheath does hold the knife perfectly secure and it's quiet on the controlled draw. Excellent concealed fix blade carry.
