Can't believe some people still fall for these tricks. The fact they assume people are talking to the dead rather than a MUCH simpler and logical explanation always fascinates me.

I don't disagree with a lot of what you say. However, there is a lot more to intuitive work than that which is commonly churned out by the popular, celebrity, travelling freak show. There is a lot more of value to be researched than this kind of ridiculousness. Believe me, I'd love to see the back of the drama queens, attention seekers, and outright con artists. They are, after all, being presented as if they represent everyone who works within the intuitive/psychic/spiritual arena - and usually deliberately so. Even debunkers have their own agenda. Whenever I am faced with uninvited, accusatory comments (dressed as facts), I ask "Is this an informed, educated opinion based on genuine research and experience - or just an opinion?" If it is the former, I'm all ears. If it's the latter, why would I waste my time and energy listening to someone's biased rant? The reason I actually watched this video is because I am doing some research for a blog post and wanted to hear more on the subject of fake psychics and cold reading. However, those that I have watched all cover the same ground and pretty much say the same thing.

I dont like this. Its different from magic trics. I think it can be abused a single oerson after. Like Horoskop Hotlines. I also think it can be like gazlighting people.

Hmmm South Park episode and a Family Guy episode that made fun of this issue relentlessly. Again, just like faith healers, the people in the audience are choosen before hand for the psychics and faith healers, to "heal them" or that the "spirit is speaking through them".

Yes, these charlatans are absolutely pathetic. The people that believe them have issues as well, but they're not conning anybody.

I've had loads of medium readings and all have been so incredibly generic and vague. Why? Because there's absolutely nothing to see on my Facebook page so they can't hot read me.

My readings have pretty much gone:

Has someone recently been for an eye test or blood tests?

Throw in some common names like Margaret, Lynn, David, Anthony/Tony

I'm sure I would have had much better "readings" if my Facebook was full of information though.

It's funny after hearing the "J/G" name thing I was curious and I quickly realized I'd be a cold reader nightmare. Sure my middle name is Marie but almost everyone in my family has that middle name. First I started with my direct family that are only related by blood and I have six uncles three per parent and about two cousins per uncle and got no hits. None of the names even had the sound of j or g in the name. (Hannah, Suzy, Andy, Larry, Kathrine, Tim, Dave, Paul, Cliff, Richard, Paul, Steven, Alice, Matt, Kelly, Sarah, Alex, Tyler, Alex, Maddy, Leo = siblings, parents, uncles, cousins and grandparents). So I expanded it to spouses of my uncles and only got 1 hit. So I expanded it even further to second cousins and siblings of my grandparents and I only got four additional hits for a grand total of 5 hits within my entire family without going into great grandparents and even that is a miss. Plus only four of my immediate family members are dead, 1 dying of asbestos poisoning, 1 dying of natural causes, and two from freak accidents. Long story short in terms of cold reading I wouldn't be a psychics first choice.

I just wanna go through the screen and smack these people across the face. They are the lowest of the low using tragedy and people's desperation to connect with someone they miss so much so they can get rich. I also want to slap some sense into the people that are so ignorant they can't see that these charlatans are using incredibly general terms and NONE of them gave any specific information and said nothing of value from the deceased. My mom kept going to a psychic so I decided to go with her one time and the psychic was cold reading so I gave them false information and they bought it afterwards I told my mom and she stopped going to them I know how it works and will do a "reading" on people afterwards I will tell them how the trick is done

Too many people are sucking up the shiny new "medium" Tyler Henry now. He's using the same methods and believers are sucking it right up. The people he reads, and the people watching the reading, don't catch on that the person being read is filling in all of the blanks. It's a shame that people keep falling for this. I believe in intuition, I think it's our version of instinct, and some are more in tune with it than others, but I think these cold reading people are terrible to prey on people that mourne their loved ones.

When my mom was dying witching a few days, she was ready for it, and she was an atheist, but one of our last conversations was that if she was able, she would watch me me as I went to a psychic, and whisper in their ear the message of “fu.ck you” so if the psychic was able to give me that message, I would know that it’s real….. she said “I’m not going to tell them I’m proud of you and I love you, cause you already know that”
