great show
ОтветитьEngine.... Its an engine
ОтветитьThink of the knowledge that will be lost when this guy dies.
ОтветитьGood job guys
ОтветитьOften I believe I could use new rod nuts
ОтветитьKnowledge is strong with this guy.
ОтветитьMaybe the crank needed shims
ОтветитьName and shame at least that way no one else gets caught.
ОтветитьI think they just had a screw up ..or the bearings were packaged rong
ОтветитьI remember being told in high school auto shop, that you can use 0-rings or umbrella type seals, but never both.
ОтветитьGreat job at failure analysis. But! I wanna play devils advocate and say that maybe the customer thought it was locked up because the piston was pushing on that valve.
Ответитьlooking back , in time oil filters were optional .
ОтветитьIn the 70's when I was a mechanic in the mines in the Yukon Canada that's what we ran with was the 292 CID inline six with a manual 4 speed trans , great trucks great engines .
ОтветитьThe other guy swapped the engines on him and gave him one he could not fix.
I bet
ya don't beat on a valve stem with a steel hammer,,go buy a brass one or use a brass spacer 😮
ОтветитьThe "parts cleaner" is really coming along!!
ОтветитьOnce had an olds 455 engine where the valves would stick open. It turned out to be a fuel pressure issue under wot, engine went lean briefly, and that was all she wrote. Knurled the valve guides, ran marvel mystery oil in the gas, to no avail, electric fuel pump eventually saved the day.
ОтветитьTurned off when bull crap bald head stuff come on
ОтветитьRobbed engine 😂😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьBe a man go bald 😆
ОтветитьI love dad and son working together, generational businesses are the best, as they have their name on the line every day.
ОтветитьMy guess as to why some of those engines have shims and some don't is that up to a certain point, the factory didn't have reliably precise techniques, tools or employees. Then at a certain point, quality control improved and the need to shim became unnecessary.
ОтветитьDon’t forget to install a 261 camshaft in it.
ОтветитьDidn’t you need to put bronze valve guides in if you’re going to use the umbrella seals? Seems like I remember there was more to it than just putting the umbrella seals in.
In 75, when I was 18, I bought an old Chevy PU that had one of these engines in boxes stacked in the bed. No idea what I was doing, but I got it together and it ran. As you might expect it didn’t have much oil pressure at idle after the engine warmed up, but it ran OK enough for me to drive it for a few months and sell the thing before it blew up. Watching this brought back some memories. Pretty sure my old engine just had the o-ring valve stem seals (always thought they were weird, seeing them in the 327 too) which were designed that way for a good reason it seems.
Maybe the 30 bearings were to compensate for the missing shims
ОтветитьCool tools!
Ответить😂❤❤ when he says LETs remember where this is!! That means later when he’s asking wait? Where did this go?!? He can say! I told you not to forget 😂😂
ОтветитьWhat a sexy shop, I’d give the frank and the beans for a shop like that, don’t use do em anymore anyway
ОтветитьThat old straight six was one of the most bulletproof and best engines ever built - Great to watch a real master at work.
ОтветитьMy dad just got his dads 1956 Apache back from a repair shop, same engine!! I recognized it immediately
ОтветитьHow would the align bore be perfect with diff bearing thickness. They may have found that the front ( nose )journal of the crank was not in line, so they changed the 030 out for a 020, so it wasn't tight when spinning it. Bad move on the builder
ОтветитьThe umbrella seal is keeping the valve stem to dry in that old motor. Just o rings allow some oil to seep down and keep the valve guide sort of lubed. I was taught this from an old timer when doing older motors. He always said to me, "Did you ever see one of these cars between shifting throw a puff of smoke? He was right.
ОтветитьHow long ya gonna stand around talking without measuring the main housing bores . Sorry , just don't like the loss of continuity ,,, ! ,,, Ya did it right on the stems and guides , and I'm sure you will do it in the next vid ,,, ! ,,, Not knocking your skill set , just your annoying attempt to promote the next vid . ,,, btw , that missing .005 should have locked it up on the stand , unless the housing bore is shot ,,, !
Ответитьin older engines I always run a upper cylinder lubricant.......
ОтветитьThanks Obama 😂😂😂
Ответитьa whole new perspective, check the part/ bearings being installed!
ОтветитьI used to have a 250 6 cyl. With a ping, but still cruised faithfully, it used a little oil, but no smoke, sold it to a guy, that put a bigger block, and a cowl hood. It had been wrecked when I bought it from a dealer that put a earl scheib 39.95 paint job
ОтветитьNow I want an engine to play as an instrument
ОтветитьNow you can make a sculpture out of the old useless parts
ОтветитьSpeaking about the old technology is interesting. As compared to new tech advancements of the old ideas
ОтветитьI am impressed with the recycling. When it is the last one left, you have museum stuff😅
ОтветитьI had a 250 straight 6 in my 1979 chevy Camaro and that thing lasted for years. It was super easy to work on, too.
ОтветитьBEARING TIT!

This is an incredible insight into what can go wrong with engine parts, thank you so much for letting us see this in so much detail! Casting numbers, measuring, checking the catalogs, so awesome!
ОтветитьNo matter how much you love the old truck that motor should go right to the scrap heap . Smallblock crate v8 to replace it.
ОтветитьRebuild shop ??? I would rather rebuild it myself ! ! !😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьI’m a retired Aircraft Mechanic and I can tell you when we get a part to do a repair with, the part gets thoroughly inspected before going the aircraft. Effectivity of weather or not it for that specific serial and series of plane, part and serial number and do a side by side comparison. No just slapping on the part you received.
ОтветитьI’ve never seen a YT channel with this many commercials
