LMAO. "So, they're going to just keep banging and keep telling each other that they're not queer. Cuz, I don't know about you, but this is definitely queer. It's not on the cusp of being queer, it's queer." I haven't laughed that hard in a while.
ОтветитьIt's amazing to me that the big kiss scene was the very first thing they shot. I don't know how these actors do it sometimes. They're incredible!
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьI came for the ASMR....👍
ОтветитьHi Mary, I’m from Calgary Alberta Canada and this movie was shot in Alberta. It’s a beautiful province and I get to enjoy the scenery all the time! That for your reaction!
ОтветитьYou seem way out of touch with the culture back then. You're viewing this through a modern prism.
ОтветитьLol. I’m laughing at seeing someone comment that he and other men were somehow tricked by this movie and walked out in disgust. Ha! I didn’t see this movie until it came out on home video and I knew from the trailers the type of movie it was. Yeah the careers didn’t take a hit for any actors or director cause of this movie. Heath Ledger got an Oscar that would’ve been his anyways even if he didn’t pass away. Get over yourself dude.
ОтветитьBack in that era it was NOT spoken about. They had to marry to allow their parents to believe they are straight.
ОтветитьMaybe you could watch a movie called a knights tale if you haven't already thanks
ОтветитьWomen don't think one guy is romantic, so how romantic if you add another guy? Ladies, don't let your guys go on fishing trips.
ОтветитьOne of Randy Quaid's greatest performances.
ОтветитьI low key love how young people can't quite grasp 1963. Especially in deeply rural America.
Kinda makes me all warm and fuzzy.
I have encountered so many people your age or younger who feel that the gays and lesbians who married in years past were actually bi.
So gay 😂
ОтветитьAng Lee is a master of stories about repressed desires. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sense and Sensibility, Lust Caustion... Hulk.
ОтветитьYou have to watch devils rejects
ОтветитьThis movie is hella gay….
Happy pride month 🏳🌈🏳⚧
It's a little ironic. This is supposed to be gay pride month, but the premise of the movie is these two men are ashamed of what they are,and can't admit to themselves.
ОтветитьIt's open to interpretation. Jack being beaten to death may have been Ennis' imagination and didn't happen or it may have been the wife's imagining the truth.
ОтветитьOf course they are both in denial my god it’s 1963 and in a lot of states especially the Bible Belt you could be jailed and/or killed. Their fight is obv the only way to show through which they express what they’re feeling having to cut their trip short and depart from one another…especially Ennis I think he’s the more repressed one for sure.
ОтветитьPride Month is a concoction of the deep state to break down societal norms. All part of the global communist agenda
ОтветитьHey Mary, hope everything is good w/u.😊 I enjoyed this reaction, but then again, I have enjoyed all your reactions that I have seen.😘
I saw this in the theater w/my best friend. When it came to the 1st sex scene, my best friend said "It figures Jake would be the bottom." 😂 I chuckled w/that. I thought this was a great movie. My best friend's only complaint was that it was too slow.
Mary, I don't think u truly understand what it was like for homosexuals back in the day. Of course, Ennis is going to have internal homophobia, & a bit of self loathing. Did u not pay attention to his story about the 2 old cowboys & why they were killed? He said his dad took him & his brother to see one of their bodies in order to show what happens to queers. Ennis got so aggtessive w/Alma because he was terrified of someone finding out that he's queer. Back then u could be arrested for unnatural acts ; your family could have u committed also for unnatural thoughts/acts, u could be jumped getting beaten & even killed, if u were a lesbian u could be raped. It was better to be closeted w/a lavendar/heterosexual marriage, than to be openly gay, especially in rural areas. I was lucky to be able to come out in 1994 at age 22, but I still show a measure of caution around some people because there are still a lot of homophobs out there. Yeah, I know, I'm saying this on the internet, but, as far as I know, I don't know u people.
Another somewhat queer movie that I enjoyed was TO THE STARS (2019)which takes place in 1960's Oklahoma.
Heath Ledger was a phenomenal actor & is greatly missed. I believe his & Michelle Williams' relationship began after/during this film. U know, Michelle Williams had a bit part in another queer movie BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER.😊
Again, great movie & great reaction!👍😊
The wife knew, it was her Dads guys that killed him
ОтветитьThe 2006 Oscars were wrong.
ОтветитьWhen asked if he had any fears about playing a gay man, Heath Ledger replied that he was not afraid of the role, only that he wasn't mature enough to do it justice.
ОтветитьThis is another reaction that doesn’t seem to understand its 1963. It was literally illegal to be Gay in the United States. Being Gay wasn’t allowed. You pretend to be heterosexual & do what is considered “normal” marry a woman have kids, then they divorce 50 years later & are allowed to be themselves.
ОтветитьThis movie is why people made such a fuss when heath ledger was cast as the joker; and yet!
ОтветитьWhat a great film. A milestone in a lot of ways.
ОтветитьYou don't seem to understand that homosexuality was illegal, and beyond that, it was not accepted in any way, in any form, and you could lose your job, they would print in the paper if you got arrested for anything to do with homosexuality. And of course, you'd be the target of violence. Men more than women, although it was frowned upon either way. Them "cheating on their wives" is not the issue, it's that they are forced to live these lives by society. You got married back then and if you didn't, there was something wrong with you. It's just that simple. It's kinda sweet that you DON'T know all that as it shows that we've made some progress as a world over the decades.
ОтветитьHeath nearly broke Jake's nose with the reunion kiss
ОтветитьHeath Ledger was asked to present at the Oscars with Jake with a parody of this movie, and he, no joke, said, "Hell no!"
People tried to be like, "Its just a joke." and he said, "Not to me."
We didn't just lose the Joker tied for first with Mark Hamill for best, we lost an ally that understood the assignment from day fucking one. 💔
Friendly reminder that THIS was the source material:
Jack took the stairs two and two. They seized each other by the shoulders, hugged mightily, squeezing the breath out of each other, saying, son of a bitch, son of a bitch, then, and easily as the right key turns the lock tumblers, their mouths came together, and hard, Jack's big teeth bringing blood, his hat falling to the floor, stub ble rasping, wet saliva welling, and the door opening and Alma looking out for a few seconds at Ennis's straining shoulders and shutting the door again and still they clinched, pressing chest and groin and thigh and leg together, treading on each other's toes until they pulled apart to breathe and Ennis, not big on endearments, said what he said to his horses and daughters, little darlin.
I’m awake and now able to watch this reaction. This movie was amazing. It uses the forbidden love trope where it’s usually 2 people from either different backgrounds, different races, different finance situations, different statuses (goth, jock, honor student, cheerleader, socialite, trailer park, etc.). A problem I had around the was a lot referred to it as “the gay cowboy movie” more than its name. Almost like they didn’t wanna bother with knowing the name.
ОтветитьGaaaeeeeeee
Ответитьthanks for reaction
ОтветитьIt's hard to believe Heath and Michelle daughter is now 19 yrs old. Time flys
ОтветитьLife’s too short to deny yourself love
ОтветитьHeath Ledger was great and he’s very missed
ОтветитьI like you see through the “it’s a beautiful love story,” thing and call out the CHEATING!
This is why I love your reactions. Real one.
Thank you for recognizing Pride Month 🏳️🌈. You're the first reactor to do so, which shows you 1 step forward is now 3 steps back. Love is love, but unfortunately, hate spreads faster than love. Hang in there, everyone he's not President forever. 🌈
Ответитьgreat film
I recommend seeing Power of the Dog, another great western
Very good emotional movie. Heath totally deserved an Oscar for this. Also Gyllenhaal is excellent. Michelle Williams also does so much even though her character doesn't have that much screen time
ОтветитьSorry, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, but that Oscar you won belonged to Heath Ledger for his performance in "Brokeback Mountain." Talk about highway robbery!
ОтветитьEnnis is terrified about being discovered. This is Wyoming in the 60s/70s, where it's very uptight. Seeing those dead gay guys as a kid traumatized him. He loves Twist but is too scared about anyone ever knowing. It's not really homophobia
ОтветитьMarry, your such a genuine and true human being, I love you ❤️ for that.✌️🙂
ОтветитьWhy this movie didn't win the Oscar for best picture is wild. I've always loved the theme song, too. It's touching.
Another amazing performance by Jake G. is in the movie Nightcrawler. Simone and George at Cinebinge just reacted to it. Check it out some time 😁
And that's 2 weeks detention for you Mary. This movie is stunning and brave
ОтветитьFunny story: I was in basic training and AIT while this film was in theaters and then released on DVD so I had no clue what it was about and did not see any trailers. When I completed all my training I stayed with my girlfriend for a while who got me caught up on all the films I had missed that year: Star Wars Episode 3, Batman Begins, King Kong, Harry Potter and she snuck in Brokeback Mountain without telling me what it was about. While we were watching it I thought it was gonna be a survival drama or maybe those boys were gonna uncover hidden gold in the mountains or something. It wasn’t until the tent scene that I figured it out. My girlfriend was laughing her ass off while I blurted out, “WTF ARE THEY DOING?!!” Yeah we never finished this film. We watched King Kong instead.
ОтветитьI would now really like to see Mary react to Crash. The controversy about Crashs win over Brokeback Mountain at the Oscars was always way to much for me. They made iz look like, there has never been a more undeserving winner than Crash. So i would like to see Mary compare the two.
ОтветитьI think I read somewhere that the author of the film confirmed that Jack's death was a hate crime. A very sad ending; somehow, I kept hoping for a happy ending until the very end.
Ответить
