Question, is there any data on the difference between economic migrants ( travelling to Britain not due to war or persecution ) and genuine refugees?
Because people have come from Albania in the past and there is no war there.
You hear figures of the Government spending £Millions a week for accomodation for those coming, surely some of that money must go on free accomodation and free food? So they are not really just a very small amounts when you way it up people who are poor here that lay rent and have to buy food.
I know its a tiny amount to live on , and it can't be easy for them, but we have families here in the UK not able to heat or eat. Nothing wrong with helping people who come as a refugee but there has to be a balance and there needs to be a seperation between people coming here because of our economy and those feeling persecution war or harm.

Plus I thought the UN Charter for Refugees tells refugees to go to the nearest safe country?

Germany gave all people with Syrian passports a place in Germany seeking refugee status. But they have had massive problems with thar policy, so while i believe we should have our rightful number of refugees, I dont think having an open policy helps either.
My big question would be why not go after the people who charging them all kinds of money to travel. Surely the traffickers are the problem people here. Not the people seeking assulym or the Government.
