Wray, Thanks for a great tip. I never heard of , or thought of using clay.
I visited your shop years ago when I lived in Worcester(born there) . Back when Rollie Linblad had his chassis shop .
I am an oldie.

I went to a demo on pitch pot use. I started using it instead of clay. That coffee cup I bought from you is still working great. I appreciate you in so many ways. Thank you.

You could try a lead block as well. It’s an old silversmithing trick.

The whole planishing welds thing, especially when trying to keep a patched panel straight, has been somewhat of a mystery to me. I know I need to planish the tacks to stretch the shrunken metal out but it seems a bit arbitrary. Great info there.
