That is so sad. 28 seems awfully young. What had she been dealing with. God bless!

Both my folks are 81. I am very fortunate to still have them both. This was television gold. Sure miss these shows that told good stories and actually made you feel something.

Archie was a dense son of a gun. I'm only 14, I'm just watching reruns. But this, this is better than anything film or cinema can make. This is acting, but it feels so damn genuine. Like they were recording someone's actual life. And this was the only time he had ever cried. He always was dense, saw everything through a comedic or bland lense, nothing could hurt big ol' tough Archie Bunker. But he really did love Edith. No matter how ya put it. He still tries to be funny even after his wife dies, presumably trying to cope. This was perfection.

This was particularly poignant because he addressed his verbally abusive behavior, and mourned the fact he couldn't sayhe loved Edith one last time.

This scene is raw and real. The most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen was my dad clutching my mom's bathrobe after her passing. He was so lost without her.

I have been married to my wife 33 years , I really don't know what I would do with out her. I will be 61 yrs old next year so with being said married to the same woman half my life. This brought tears to my eyes Carrol never broke character , awesome actor.

I told my ex that I if I married her I wanted to pass before her. She asked me why and I showed her this. I could not bare the pain of creating a life with somebody and then after decades of them being there, they are gone in the blink of an eye.

Sorry for your loss brother...My mom passed few years ago to, before my dad. He couldn't function either, he wasn't very strong for his kids and grandchildren. Notice here how Archie was able to put aside his own grief to comfort his grandaughter....Thats a man who stepped up. Sorry for the loss of your mother, mom's are the best. It will get easier, and believe me you will feel her presence when you are at your lowest, she will be with you.

Edith dying was tantamount to everyone in America losing a family member. I remember seeing it on every magazine and tabloid cover for weeks. It was like Elvis died.

..saw this scene for the first time December 2023. Growing up I watched the show, along with the other Norman Lear classics. Who didn't like or laugh at Edith Bunker's voice?? Loved the theme song, I never really knew how it ended on the show. I shed a tear or two while watching this scene.

This reminds me of my own parents. I lost my Mom in 1997. She apparently was the healthy and strong one and then she died. 55 years old. My Dad had everything wrong with him. He lived for a year and a half and decided he wanted to be with her and died in December of 1998. He was 60 :(

"Them people from Jersey is brutes..." I've remembered that line all these years later. The switch from Archie's pain to a moment of levity to end the scene is so well done and showcases what a fine actor Mr O'connor was.
