Faith without works is dead, sola fide is a heretical lie, developed by a man who had plenty of the pride you're speaking of.
If pride comes from your doing works, you're doing it wrong, and should repent.
The point of Christianity isn't to just 'believe', it is to become as Christ like as possible in this flesh, that includes works.
