A Place in the Heart Flipped Classroom Lesson 2

Using the works of Thomas Lyon Mills as their inspiration, students will create a mixed media work of art that is both stunning as well as complex. Incorporating the artist’s techniques of subtraction and addition, pentimento and frottage, as well as soft and oil pastels and India ink you will have the opportunity to explore new or at least unfamiliar mediums while at the same time creating a very personalized work of art. Mills states that his “preferred world” is “a shadow world of memory, time and dreams.” Starting with his onsite work in the Italian Catacombs and the influence of his dreams, he has returned to the studio to work on pieces, often for years at a time.
