I had this laser surgery done in July 2019 and four full year since, the healing can be described as 95% complete (5% being the occasional inflammation but nothing compared with before the laser surgery). My surgery did not seal up the fistula completely and there are occasional discharge if I drive for too long. Doctor did mention a second surgery may be necessary if the fistula doesn’t close up fully, but I’m already satisfied with the 95% closure post operation so I did not opt for a second round. I would encourage anyone with the same condition to opt for this laser procedure over the traditional cut-open to heal surgical option, as the alternative recovery process is with much more pain and since they are cutting through important muscles, the recovery to full function is uncertain.

Why isn't this more popular? I have a seton in right now and an appointment with the VA to have either a flap or some other procedure to finalize this pain-in-the-ass surgery. I don't know why he didn't even mention laser

It's difficult to digest that LASER can close the fistula track.
You are showing a Very Low Anal Fistula where superficial external sphincter involvement is not present.
Such kind of fistula are successfully healed with lay open procedure....And it's cost effective also. Then why should one go with costly Laser...???
Also you are showing suturing of internal opening after the closer of the fistula track, why it was needed when the track was closed with Laser. That means you don't believe with closer by Laser.
Finally I want to say that, if we compared the Laser with other techniques like electric Cautery..... Laser management is very costly and can't affordable by patients in country like India.
Simply you are serving a meal in a plate of Gold.... Contrary serving in plate of steel can fulfill the hunger.

I have loose seton. there has been drainage last 3 months. no more drainage is can I just cut the seton and remove? do I have to have laser? please tell me. I can not visit a dr due to finance.
