Thank you so much for the work you’re doing! I took Dr Lyon’s 4 week challenge as a vegan because it said the program was vegan/vegetarian friendly. It absolutely was not, and their suggestion was to eat meat while on the program, then go back to being vegan. Telling someone that who hasn’t had a steak in 30 years was outrageous to me.
ОтветитьBravour! 🎉
This is a calm, well researched and very neutral/polite and respectful critique on Dr Lyon's clip. I like this approach very much.
You got yourself a new subscriber.
Thank you Simon for always dropping knowledge and making it easy to understand 👍🏽
Ответить95%of US soy is GMO. Yikes
ОтветитьThank you Simon Hill for your response and the information you provided. It was truly appreciated!
Ответить🎼“Leucine in disguise with almonds”🎵🎶
Ответитьjust eat the straw, man
Ответитьeat as your body calls you to. stressing it all is the worst for health. her approach is so repulsive to me and frankly, well, i think too much is too much. protein, muscle, stress, instructions, micromanaging self and others. no thank you
ОтветитьNot very professional to call someone out like that. Havent even listened to the podcast yet but would of expected better from you.
ОтветитьSimon, I just want to applaud you. You gave the most detailed and knowledgeable comparison of plant versus animal protein which is such a necessary and timely response for those who have been completely confused by all the misleading information given by these influencers. Thank you, and I greatly appreciate your podcast.
ОтветитьDr Layman discusses the lesser bioavailability of plant proteins so this might be a factor to consider
ОтветитьRight on!!! 🎉
ОтветитьNicely done. Thank you.
ОтветитьThis is such a great video. I get lost in the weeds sometimes!
ОтветитьYour findings and this video makes me so happy! Aloha! ♥️🤙🏽
ОтветитьIn terms of mental and physical health, eating mainly saturated fat with lower adequate animal protein makes me a calm , sociable and optimistic individual 😊 my racing thoughts , stomach upsets, fatigue and anxiety disappeared when i adopted this high fat ( 60 % to 70 % ) diet with most days zero carbohydrates, I can only speak for myself that my life has been transformed 😊
Ответить👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
ОтветитьLyon is an influencer who works for and lives off followers. Muscle-aesthetic driven Americans like their steak. Aversion to veganism and vegetarians is a kind of ingroup indicator for the big, strong. Lyon would lose followers and sponsors if she spoke nuanced about this! And god forbid if she spoke the truth about red meat and cancer...Then it's over and done with. It's politics and commercialism in an unholy mix.
ОтветитьYou’re correct. As someone who deeply studies evidence-based nutrition and muscle physiology, I appreciate this breakdown. Dr. Gabrielle Lyon is absolutely correct that ~2.5g of leucine is a key trigger for muscle protein synthesis (MPS), especially in older adults dealing with anabolic resistance. That threshold is supported by Layne Norton and Don Layman’s work and is especially relevant in clinical settings where maximizing MPS per meal matters.
However, your critique is scientifically valid and necessary. The issue is that Dr. Lyon selectively highlights poor plant-based examples like quinoa (which is carb-dominant and not a practical protein source) while ignoring highly efficient options like tofu, tempeh, soy isolate, pea protein, or even microprotein. These plant-based sources can reach the leucine threshold with reasonable calories — and this has been confirmed in recent RCTs (Van Loon 2024, Hamilton et al. 2021, Montain et al. 2023) showing no significant difference in hypertrophy or strength when protein intake is matched between vegan and omnivorous diets.
Also, meals are not built from isolated foods. Total protein and leucine across the meal — or day — matter far more than each ingredient hitting the exact 2.5g on its own. So while she’s not entirely wrong, the framework is outdated and misleading when presented without context. You nailed that.
Thanks for addressing this with actual science instead of tribalism. We need more of this.
It would also be helpful, both you and doctor Lyon would have us the protein grams as well. Because only calories doesn’t tell the whole story. Even if tofu has 2,5 of leucine how much protein grams is this?
ОтветитьI'm soooo glad you showed up on my thumbnails!! I love how detailed and knowledgeable you are; you don't skip out on the important information that other people try to do, like pick what just suits them for their content. Thank You Simon! Many blessings to you, and I hope more people subscribe to your channel!
ОтветитьCarnivore diet
ОтветитьShe's just an attention seeker. Nothing makes nore money than being famous on the internet. Money comes flying by! And what's more trendy than meat?
There are thousands of doctors out there on tue internet..so, why would people listen to her? She had to create a niche for herself. She liked meat and saw a huge potential in "carnivore" content and indeed blew up.
Who cares how scientifically uneducated or biased she is? who cares if she doesn't fully understand science ? Who cares if she doesn't even have the basic understanding of established science ,let alone put in some effort to actually learn to understand scientific studies. But why would she when making wild unscientific claims on tue internet makes her a ton of money?
Kudos, nice setting and lighting.
ОтветитьSome kind of interest or payout from the animal industry?
ОтветитьA big message about the perils of reductionism in nutrition. The whole is more than the sum of its parts.
ОтветитьAll Plants have plenty of Amino Acids and protein for humans... It is simple
ОтветитьMy guess when I first heard her slam the FDA with the same argument is she’s going by BV scale - although never mentions this for some odd reason.
ОтветитьFrom just consuming raw fruits and veggies, my leucine intake is close to 4 g🤷, so I terribly fail to accept her narrative.
ОтветитьWhy is she always dressed like she's going out clubbing??
ОтветитьNothing is compared to animal protein.
Animal protein is the best!!!❤
Thank you for the proof!
ОтветитьLOL Loved the story at the end, I hope you find your grandma lol, maybe she is settled in one of the Bluezones now
ОтветитьProcessed is one thing and Ultra processed is just empty calories/dead food. So I think people now understand the difference or they should that lightly processed food isn't unhealthy. Thank you for sharing the science Simon, you are amazing and it is great that people like you exist to clear up all of this bias and misinformation.
ОтветитьThere is clear scientific evidence in the first few seconds that eating chicken causes dark lines to form on the arms and leads to an obsessive urge to dress in dark fabrics.
ОтветитьSimon is right again!
ОтветитьThank you so much to explain Plant based protein with knowledge and correct information. Look at my pic, I was 50 when O took the picture. I've been Vegan for 25 years, I studied and researched A LOT about nutrition on my own. Je is completely wrong.
ОтветитьI was always uncomfortable with the amount of animal protein Dr. Lyons was recommending, even though I eat meat. Thank you for breaking down why and for encouraging me to incorporate more plant based protein sources in my own diet.
ОтветитьYOU.NEED.MEAT.
ОтветитьGreat video! Always wondered on these points. Also is that grandma point real at the end?😅
ОтветитьExcellently explained with scientific proof.
ОтветитьLyon be Lying
ОтветитьI put it as polite as I can she's a nasty person no matter what she says.
ОтветитьAfter being vegetarian for 15 yrs and then going Paleo and feeling amazing and then not so amazing, my conclusion based on my experience is that we are omnivores so I now focus on animal protein and a variety of vegetables and I avoid processed grains and sugars. I think unless you have a conviction about not harming animals, the best diet is one that has variety avoiding processed foods & sugar.
ОтветитьThank you for the video. I mean, the way she looks says it all..
ОтветитьWould you do a video on Anthony Chaffee. it's easy to dismiss a lot of these carnivore people, but his arguments seem pretty solid.
ОтветитьThere's proof on both sides of the argument, including clinical trials and studies.
ОтветитьGet a life.
ОтветитьBioavailability, meat products are more absorbable than plant protein
Ответить
