I agree with almost everyone here that this procedure is very invasive, painful and should be done in the hospital where emergency personnel is right there in case something went wrong. I had mine done one month ago without any warning, without any sedation prior and post!!! My sole purpose of going to the gyne was because of an unusual heavy menstrual bleeding. Pelvic exam was done and the gyne thought biopsy was necessary. So yeah, I got her assistant's hand as my squeeze ball during the procedure. For your peace of mind, do it! The result of my biopsy showed no abnormal cell growth but up to this day, that experience still haunts me.

My OBGYN Dr had me cough to get the samples. She did a "scraping", I guess that is grabbing of several tissues like in the video, that effin' hurt. It felt like bad first day cramps. Afterwards I felt mild cramps and not bad. They didn't tell me how long before I could have intercourse. Did any of your Dr's say how long to wait? Thank you :)

I didn't research this before having my procedure. I was scheduled for a SIS (saline-infusion sonography), The doc gave me the info for a SIS where it said to take IBU (motrin). I took 1600mg of IBU & a Valium. During the SIS procedure it's announced to me that they need to do an Endometrial Biopsy, and my OB/GYN was NOT the person doing any of the procedures.. I was told it would be "uncomfortable and experience period cramping". I was not given any medication. They did 3 Endometrial Biopsies! It was excruciatingly painful af! I cried. I didn't even cry during labor & delivery. I left that practice and went to a new OBG/YN.

I just had my 5th one done today. I am 25 years old. The first time I was kind of suckered into it. My doctor described the pain as super intense period cramps. It was absolutely horrible. I can't remember numbers two and three, but number four caused such bad spasms of my uterus that my IUD expelled itself. I actually passed out on the table during that one. Before each one now, my doctor gives me xanax and Percocet, and also numbs the cervix with lidocaine, but I strongly feel this should be done under sedation. I have back procedures that are performed with fentanyl given through an IV, and even that would be preferable.

Today's was definitely no picnic. The sample taken was about the size of the tip of my pinky finger. Fingers crossed that this can be my last one.

I wish I saw these comments before I had to get mine done but I went in for a routine check up and this was a suprise so I didn't have time to prepare. For those who felt no pain man, I only wish. THIS HERE IS SOME REAL PAINFUL STUFF!!!!!!! I had to make my doctor stop! I never felt that type of pain like that before. She told me I would feel some cramping but I tell you the truth, THAT WAS WORSE THAN SOME CRAMPING! It was so painful I began to cry. It's like you can't hold them in. To me maybe it is the same feeling when a man is getting something inserted in his penile hole. I could hardly walk after wards & still experiencing some cramping here & there. No meds was given to me. Just told not to have sex for 48hrs. My husband was shocked looking at this vid seeing just what I went thru today. If you have to get one I pray this won't hurt you like it did me in Jesus Mighty Name.

I'm in the uk and it was very painful and I wasn't told about taking painkillers first. The gp told me to ask for a anesthetic, but on the day I was refused this. I have many years of endometriosis problems which persisted after menopause and this procedure was terrible at my age. After watching this video - a bit late - the examination to see which way the uterus tilted was done AFTER taking the samples. I was originally told the one then she decided to dive in again, but I knew what pain to expect by then. I had to rest in the foyer of the hospital and was unable to stand straight or stretch up for days and was in pain a lot longer. No offer of any medication afterwards. I must say though, Don't put it off, but do make it known from the start if you want an anesthetic and keep them knees tight together til they agree. There won't be another time for me without anesthetic.

I had this done a few hours ago. sorry you ladies went thru pain but like you I read comments and watched videos and was freaked out FOR NOTHING. I took a naproxen about 45 minutes before procedure. braced myself for pain and not so much as cramp. took about 5 minutes several samples and completed. I guess the skill of the Dr. along with the muscle relaxer but small poke and done. I guess everyone is different but I felt nothing. there is bleeding of a watery constancy but nothing major. hope this helps. I had the Leep procedure last year as well.

I was supposed to have this procedure done in my doctor's office, but she couldn't get past my cervix. She performed a D & C with biopsy instead, for which I was put to sleep. The D & C was done as out- patient surgery. I had no pain afterwards and didn't have to take any prescription pain medication or over the counter medication after going home. If you have health insurance, you might want to have a biopsy with D & C instead of the office biopsy.

Don't let everyone's horror stories scare you away from this important test, I had one done 3 days ago, the best way to explain it is period cramps. Everyone's pain tolerance is different, and usually I'm a big baby, but this was no where near as bad as what I heard from half of the women online. I took 3 ibuprofen a half hour before the procedure and I was okay. Oh and take a pad. You will have some bleeding.Good luck!

I felt like I was delivering another baby without the back pain until afterwards.
I had a female pastor and friend praying for me prior to the procedure.
I named the 'baby', Lisa, after her.
Please note: I am an active RN. Maybe I just knew too much.

Mine was horrific...after all of that pain, I was told that they weren't able to get enough of a sample. I cried out and screamed :( I'm going to have the procedure done in the hospital where I'll be fully asleep! 39 yr old female and I think getting hit by a truck repeatedly would've felt much better! Just because you're able to bare the pain doesn't mean eveyone can. I felt like I was having a backwoods abortion done even though it was inside the of the docs office. I said never again, not while I'm awake! :( I never felt cramping, well not the kind I'm used to with my cycle, those cramps are also terrible! So if you must have this done, I'd suggest going into the hospital. That way they can do everything that's needed at the same time. xo <3

I do not understand why this procedure is performed without even a little anesthesia... I mean there is no baby in the uterus so why not give a local numbing stick of a needle to lessen what "most" women do feel as pain... I nearly flew off the table when this supposedly non-painful procedure was performed on me, as well, and I felt like I could not trust the Doctor after, too ... I think women are undermined in the Dr's office and not listened too and are expected to hush up and just do as the DR says... well I think we women need to speak up and say I need a pain killer for ANY "surgical" procedure, it's my body and I say what goes!!!

I was supposed to have this procedure done last week, but it was so painful, the doctor had to stop without having gotten a sample.  I'll tell you that I vaginally delivered two BIG babies (9 pounds, 5 ounces; and 9 pounds, 11 ounces) without medication in my childbearing years, and this felt like that.  But no baby to reward me for the pain.  Doc suggested a d&c under sedation at the hospital, but I chose not to do that.  The alternative was to have another ultrasound six months from now which sounds a lot better to me than the hospital.

Ok for anyone who is scared. It DID hurt but NOT unbearable. I had to breath deep a couple times and had a few ow ow ow's toward the end. It felt like tugging, and ripping. Honestly a tattoo hurts less to me, but Its a different type of pain. It was ore painful then a regular pap, but less painful then a urine catheter.

I had this procedure done this morning. I will admit i was nervous but the Dr was great and talked me through what I would feel. It was a bit painful but I used deep yoga relaxation breathing and knew it would be over quick. The Dr said I was one of the best patients ever. Afterwards I felt cramping and something like uterine contractions. Took two ibuprofen and now I'm resting with a heating pad on my belly. I had read plenty about the procedure but glad I didn't watch this video prior to, it would have freaked me out even more. Now a week of waiting but I will not worry....what good would that do?

I just got this done and it hurt so bad, but at least it was quick. He had to "wash" me like 2 times and that hurt too. It felt like it was cutting me up there for 2 minutes...And I don't get very bad cramps on my period...Don't let it stop you though it's a good test to take. I would suggest ibuprofen beforehand.

My gynecologist wanted to do endometrial biopsy, but I refused it. She just wanted to go ahead, like it was a simple, pain free procedure, meanwhile I have never been pregnant. They found endometrial polyp, so that is why she wanted do the biopsy, but I couldn't understand why she wanted to put me trough extra pain, when I needed a surgery to remove it. She didn't know that I used to work as a nurse, and in gynecological department as well, so when I asked her about the pain, cramps and bleeding that it can involve, she lied to my face and said it doesn't cause those. So, I lost my trust in her right away and asked to be referred to another doctor, who will do my surgery as well. I know, that for some women biopsy doesn't cause much pain, but for many women, it is extremely painful. Women should have a choice to go ahead with the procedure, or have sedation and strong pain medications for it. It is 21. century, and it is not OK that doctors still don't care for women's pain and emotional well-being. Even for wisdom teeth extractions, you can ask for sedation. Ladies, you have rights to be treated in dignified and pain free manner.

Had it done twice, 2 days ago because the first sample became unsterile, worst pain ever!!!! my body literally started shaking on it's own, made me nauseous. They said cramping would be 10 mins. max, my ass still feeling them. Women take all the meds you can before going, your to need them. But not everyone is the same. I've had 2 of these to screen for cancer because of polyps in my uterus. Yes, it hurts. A lot. However, it's FAR better than not having it done at all. Take ibuprofen beforehand. If the doc offers to use some numbing stuff on you, accept it. Don't be afraid to ask for a small break. Take it easy afterwards. It sucks but it's fast.
