Great addition to the original post, thank you! I really think it's a code thing that they haven't quite nailed yet. I'd be very curious what the difference is between the blocks which have this issue and those which don't. One thing: I think I've noticed this effect on terrain materials. Your vid on building stuff into terrain seemed to be showing it a little. I thought I was seeing the stone covering the edges of objects like the chest differently on the left side than on the right. I could have been hallucinating that, though. :)
