The attempt of sensing the inexplicable mystery of nature is well suited and perhaps met in a place like the Scottish Highlands.

Good idea, letting a fireplace have access to the outside. Pull in air/oxygen from the outside air so it doesn't try to pull in air from the inside. IMO, every fireplace should have an air pipe from outside going straight into it. Otherwise, you need to crack a window, negating some of the heat benefits.
