I feel like Stephanie Meyer’s relationship with female youth is something she should examine in therapy maybe

One of my favorite... It does say Wes is 19 so that wasnt a second underage pairing just a big age difference

If you think the romance between a 26 year old man dating a 16 year old girl was problematic, wait till you see Rurouni Kenshin where Kenshin himself, a 28 year old former imperial assassin marries Kaoru, a 17 year old Kendo teacher.

Honestly i agree about the whole underage thing but i think its more in the context of them thinking there is no other humans left alive. She still should have made them older though.

Tbh, the super intelligent spider alien society that has a symbiotic relationship with these little creature that get implanted into them and help them be more feeling sounds faaaaar more interesting! Maybe it’s because I’ve been watching and playing so much Star Wars with my parents lately but I wanna read or watch THAT story! Sounds kinda like Krypton, too, since it’s often shown as very analytical and governed by the Science Council (and in Superman the Animated Series that’s even how Brainiac came to be as he was their super computer and he saw Krypton’s fate coming and made sure to save himself). Krypton…. but with spiders discovering emotions!

I truly have no idea how Stephanie could come up with the idea of an alien coexisting with a headstrong human with big emotions and that alien slowly coming to understand emotions she’d never had before and then disregarding it for underaged romances! I read this in 7th grade and was so bothered by the constant reminder that there were huge age gaps. I was so irritated bc Wanda is thousands of years old and has decided that this is her last life cycle and I loved seeing her grow from this old, detached creature to almost somewhat of a teenager in the sense that she’s experiencing so many new emotions and slowly gets excited wondering about mortality and what it means to be human

I read this book back in highschool because the girl that i had a huge crush on and we were locker mates; anyways she was reading the book, and i read it too to inspire a conversation.

I previously read through all the twilight books for the same reason. The books of twilight are quite a bit more palettable than the movies, but on the other hand, the movies are way shorter amount of time invested to finish them.

It was okay, it was okay, it was better than the entire series of Twilight, thats about all i can say. I bought the movie in one of those walmart $3 dvd bins, but i haven't actually watched it yet, and i dont really have any plans to in the near future.

There's a LOT of comments, so i don't know if i commented before...
But i love the way you discuss this. Like, there's actually a lot that's very cool in both book and movie... utterly drowned by all the STUPID.

I still hope that Alicorn (she who wrote one of my favorite things ever, a retelling of twilight that JUSTIFIES every idiotic thing about it EVER - its called Luminosity and is permanently on my top 5 list) will do a rewrite... or SOMEONE will do a rewrite in Alicorn style...

I actually liked the Host much more than Twilight. I'm convinced Twilight would have been epic if she had omitted Bella completely from the series. That said, somehow I mentally glossed over the age description in the Host and assigned my own ages to the characters, making it much more appropriate and enjoyable. I was even ok with the movie even though it felt chopped to bits.

It's pretty rare for a thumbnail to make me laugh, so let's hear again about this dumpster fire that I avoided coz my video rental place played segments of it to try sell it for moviegoers.

The fanfiction premise, bad acting and fantastic overdubbing convinced me to never watch it!😂

before i even watch the video i just want to say i actually really liked the host (the book, not the movie), up until the ending with wanda's new body and the age thing. that was super gross and weird and i assume that's what amanda means when she calls it gross, and she's totally right. i'd love to see a video about the chemist, another of stephenie meyer's books!
edit: oh and the melanie stuff... yikes i completely forgot about that its so gross

I don't care about the age difference between Melanie and Jared, he's gross just because he's a domestic abuser hiding behind red flags for years and finally revealing himself to Melanie when she's circumstantially vulnerable.
Anyone else hate Jared and Ian from Stephanie Meyer's book, 'The Host'? Or, anyone else think they're lying predators? Or, anyone else think Uncle Jeb shouldn't have let Jared abuse his niece Melanie when she came back possessed by a Soul? Or, anyone else think Jared was waving red flags all those years he was with Melanie and Jamie, and the scum monster he turned into when Melanie came back possessed was his true colors all along? Or, anyone else think both Melanie and Wanderer are toxic targets?

(Edited for grammar): I know Ellis gave her a bit of a free pass over the years, but I'm still pissed that she said that book was for people who hate sci-fi. I'm even more upset that if she thinks herself as a writer, that she didn't consider the what sci-fi has done for society, and that it further cements her upbringing to that point in this "glass dome".

Actually, in the book, the “script wasn’t flipped” 😅. When it came to the Kyle and Wanderer scene, Kyle initially tried to kill Wanda/Melanie but ends up falling and hitting his head. Wanda saves him while Mel in her head is telling her to let Kyle fall as he had just literally tried to kill him. Wanda then proceeds to have an internal argument with Mel about how that’s against her character. She lies and says they both just fell or something like that. Then gets called out by Jebb and Jared who proceeds to tell her they know she’s lying cause Mel would have straight up let Kyle die after the attempted murder 👍
