Connecting a wireless microphone to an iPhone should be pretty straight-forward. But it's sort of not that intuitive if I really think about it. Manufacturers do include a bunch of cables in their packaging but you almost always need an additional adapter. More on that later. But first, let me explain the differences with the included audio patch cables. That way you'll know which one to use. The TRS plug with the 3 metal sections on it is for video cameras and camcorders. The TRRS plug has 4 metal sections on it. And this one is for use with smartphones through a headphone jack. But here's the problem, most smartphones don't have headphone jacks anymore. And that is definitely the case with my iPhone XR.

Because my phone doesn't have a headphone jack, I'll need to plug the TRRS end of the patch cable into a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter which is sold separately. And I'll list this part in the description so it's easy for you to find. Now plug the adapter into the iPhone. Then insert the other end into the receiver's port with the camera icon next to it. And if I want to monitor incoming audio I can plug my headphones into the receiver's headphone jack. At this point, my iPhone is set to record audio from this wireless mic. And a handy feature about most receiver modules is that they can typically be attached to hot shoe mounts. It really helps to make this an all-in-one unit for recording.

And here are a couple of final notes. Even if you are using 2 microphone transmitters, smartphones cannot record in stereo. Only mono recording is possible. There's really no other way around that because that's how it's built. And lastly, if you have an iPhone 15 or newer, you'll need to use a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter instead of the Lightning adapter I mentioned earlier.
