Tell me the works of the man who died next to Jesus on the cross

You can’t say grace is a free gift and then say you must do this work to get it - that’s a contradiction.
James 2 is written to born again believers and the context is profitability. If I get saved and then go home and wait to die, my faith profits nobody but myself. God will lovingly discipline me for that (as described in Hebrews 12:6) but he won’t send his child to hell.

Yes works are from our faith. But we have to cooperate with christ. The beatitudes jesus tells us and our commandments how to live. That is works.

Salvation comes through grace of God as a gift through faith alone.
Good works is something that should naturally come through faith. So its important. But faith alone grants salavation.

I'm specifically posting this prior to watching this video. It is my belief that TRUE faith will always manifest in the works of the faithful. Works always follows faith, if you truly believe in Christ, then you would follow His charge to St. Peter, "feed my sheep." But it is NOT the works that builds salvation but faithfulness and diligence.

Faith is NOT a checkbox like "yeah I believe in Jesus."
Remember, if you love Him you OBEY His commandments and gospels.
So it is an "active faith."
Also remember the parable of a rich young man? asking how to go to Heaven? then Jesus enumerated most of the Commandments?
So it is not a check box that by believing you are saved.

James was addressing jews. Read the firsr verses of the book of james. Its not to the body of christ. Jews are not part of the body of christ

Works come through faith Jesus said, I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father except through me you go to Jesus to gain works!

Then if we do not work 7sacrement and baptized then we can also be saved? I know Orthodox salvation view is similar as Catholic.

I been having some doubts about my walk with the Lord and wether im not following the right path because Im not a true Orthodox, I was born one but I go to a baptist church,I call myself a follower of Christ because i dont like dividing the churches. I have a question though. This is what i basically got from the video, your saved by faith alone, but in order to prove you are, s by doing works, its like a relationship, You love God, so you prove it to him by going to church, reading the Word, and such. right? So the way to get to heaven is faith in Christ and to confess he is Lord, but that has a deeper meaning, because if you truly do confess He is Lord, then you would be changed, you would repent, not love sin, and such correct?

The simple reality is we are always working for someone. No one truly does nothing. Even sluggards make the choice, or work, at nothing. You can work the ways of God or the ways of Satan. Your faith, your beliefs, your source of hope—-will determine which kingdom you are laying the bricks of the temple for. It is not that faith doesn’t save, it’s that faith determines which works you will be in.

Faith alone. If you add anything to grace then you are cutoff from Christ. Gal 5 Heresy.

James 2 context is saying he will show his faith by his works. Not to God but to man.

Faith cannot develop if there is no detachment from the world, the world that we see ( our opinion on the world ) so we must deny ourselves and follow christ and become cruscified and surrender to GOD and enter GODs rest ( sabath ) so we cant become like a tree , God gives us and we give others freely

What view does the Orthodox have on the Gospel of Thomas?
As I see it, there is the faith that there is a way beyond material existence, the work of virtue/conscience+concentration/meditation/prayer, and the grace of the ripening process.

If there was an orthodox church near my home I would start attending. I'm Presbyterian but over the last 4 years or so I've felt myself drawn to Orthodoxy because it's the only legitimate continuation of the original church. I've learned an awful lot of the history of the orthodox church

Why do you call yourself “father?”

Biblically, Christians are once justified, always justified.... We do not earn this Justification. God is changing his flock daily. I know what Jesus did for me. I do good work, because of what Jesus did for me. I don't do it, because it will save me. The finished work of Christ has saved me already. Period.

That demons believe that God is One is intellectual based not faith/trust based. Satan and his demons don't trust in Christ for salvation. So the term believe is brought forward here without any nuance about the true meaning. Name one fallen angel that trusts in Christ for salvation by faith, there aren't any. To anyone doubting salvation by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, the answer lays in Hebrews 3:14-19 and Hebrews 4:1-10. Eastern orthodox churches believe in faith + works = salvation which Hebrews 4:1-10 shows is not the truth. They haven't entered God's rest. All those who believe in Christ alone for salvation did enter into the rest in Christ that God promised because those who believe have rested from their works just as God rested from His. Amazing grace how sweet thy sound!

Hebrews 4:10

For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

Eastern Orthodoxy make the serious error of mixing justification and sanctification.
