Today 15 years ago 5 hours and 19 minutes ago Us Airways flight 1549 took off from LGA.

Been trying to work out for years what ‘Priority Left’ meant. Just figured out today it refers to who has control. On that aircraft, the side sticks are independent and can be used at the same time. However, there’s a button on each stick to give priority to one stick over the other. Since Sully sits in the left seat, he gave his stick priority, hence why the system says ‘priority left’

Throughout these scenes…the sims, the actual flight - why are there engine sounds? In the sims when turning and approaching you hear the engines winding up and down as if the auto thrust is on. In the crv playback during the external shot of the plane turning (at an unrealistic rate of turn as well) you hear the “roar” of the engines.

I thought it was ridiculous that the pilots in the simulators didnt do any of this. Sure not with the same sense of urgency, but in reality they should know to do all that stuff, not casually turn back. They had them acting like theyd forgotten most of their training and experience If the NTSB tried pushing those simulations in real life they'd be gaslit by every pilot in the business.

Basically pilots had been died 16 times while doing emergency situation before 35 second simulation.

I never got it when the controller said "what do you need to land".... a working engine would have been my response, but that's why I'm not a pilot, clearly.

There were exactly 35 seconds between flameout and the Captain taking control of the aircraft in this clip.

So the simulation shows failure gross failure at 35 seconds elapsed time from power loss to Sully's first instinct to turn to LGA was just about 35-36 seconds 86 seconds in he realizes he neither has the airspeed nor the altitude to make it to LGA. This is from the experience of landing that aircraft 100's of times with 100's of hours. 96 seconds in he calls unable and decides to water land. At this point it is important to note he has been heading towards LGA for a full minute assessing his ability to get there the entire time.

Everyone talks about the Pilots - and they made it happen - no doubt... BUT, I would really like to hear the perspective of the FAs - remember, they went into procedure mode immediately - trying to prepare the cabin AND the passengers for a crash landing - all the while, themselves - scared out of their minds - think about it - they had ZERO information other than the Captain/FO telling them - we are going down - prepare for a water landing... They know enough to know - they lost both engines AND didn't have sufficient altitude.
Hearing them shout out BRACE over the intercom.
NOW - all this happens in what? +/- 2min?
THIS IS what the FAs train for - the 'what-ifs' - and get everyone out as quickly as possible...
I fly a lot - always pay attention to the FAs - never really concerned UNLESS I see their manner change and they go into procedure mode - it's subtle sometimes - but you know it when you see it - the vibe is different and you can see if there is an issue in their eyes - remember, "Chico, the eyes never lie..."
