I don't think I've ever seen a more fitting representation of Purgotory than Se7en's city. A nameless sluggish hellhole where nothing is ever completed, and nobody is ever satisfied, where light and good is drowned out and passion and ascension cannot exist

Something fun is that they made the gluttony victim well-endowed because the fat suit and makeup were such a pain for the actor, so the director thought it would only be fair.

So many connections.
Since i saw it in the theaters way back when.
John Doe.
A radically saved Keyser Soze. The amazement, disgust, charm, respect, and sheer terror that he commands from each scene. Yet another great prog! Keep it going strong! Historic sports legends, historic money tycoons. Theres always so much even to anylize.

The failure to complete his work, would have been his undoing!

Pope Gregory the First had such an impact on Christianity as we know it today but I hate him because he also started one of the biggest lies in the church by slandering Mary Magdalene and saying she was a sex worker. So take everything Pope Gregory the First said with a grain of salt.

That li'l squiggly in the middle of yin/yang indicates that there are no perfect lines in Nature...7 deadly sins cannot exist as an end all be all, but an acknowledgement of human that doesn't require one to be totally absent from, but leashed

I think Kevin Spacey should have received an Oscar for this portrayal. He was truly frightening.
But the analysis of John Doe is right on, but how sick is this mind I don’t see him as a genius I see him as a perverted man who could’ve used his intelligence for good

I don't think that he erotically is aroused, but his Magnum Opus is the seven deadly sins he has committed and murdered people. He has nothing else in his live, so becomes obsessed about this. The same as de Sade did in his works and his imprisonment. And the more people despised him, the more brutally and violent he became. The same as Charles Manson. Psychopathy is all about finding a purpose because of a voice is telling him he is in the right and it had to be done. Also he enjoyed the killings because he thought of all those sins of mankind and in particular the sins of the specific people he murdered.

Your library list is very good, but the areas that you have questions about can be answered by remembering one simple fact about Dante's comedy. The big difference between the people in hell and the people in purgatory is that the people in purgatory KNOW they are responsible for their sins and they own up to it. They aren't even being punished by god, they are choosing their own punishment for what they see as sins.
For the people in hell, they are trapped there because they are unable to have this self awareness. For example, the people in the lust realm dont own their own agency and instead blame love for forcing them to behave as they did.
By looking at the other books on john doe's list, we can interpret him as wrestling with his own agency. He puts himself in hell and makes himself one of his own victims because he cant own that his actions are his. Thats why he bristles at the questioning. The questions are about his agency and he refuses to own it. He is doing what he is doing because he was "chosen"

I always wondered if John Doe was actually envious of Mills or if it just fit his narrative. He played at being envious to provoke Mills. His attitude never gave off the vibe he was envious of anyone. And why would he be envious of a wrathful sinner like Mills? In that way, I feel his “masterpiece” was somewhat flawed. He just used it as a means to an end.

👍🏆👍! PS— JOHN DOE’s Background ? He came from Wealthy Parents but Viewed, Sadly, the Hypocrisy of “ Good People “. After his Father was Disgraced in being caught with SERIOUS Inside-Trading & a Sex Scandal Bankrupting the Family Funds. Being broke now, he moved to a Big Apple, Was employed in the Major City Library as a RESEARCHER. He wrote an Incredibly Detailed & 🏆Historical Novel. But after he tried presenting his Writing for Publication- It was Stolen & Plagiarized by a “ Commercial - Name Author “ that Peddles Cheap & Exploitation Books and Movies through ADVERTISING, Hutzpah & Self- Aggrandizing . After being Fired & Labeled as an ANGRY AVERAGE Looser. Then.. he SNAPPED. And always ❤d DANTE’S INFERNAL!! God Bless. 👴🏽NoBody🎞️s.

It's ironic that a "holy man" like John Doe seeks to punish sinners, since that's a job more commonly associated with the Devil.

I don't believe that the last option to save mills was his forgiveness of what john doe has done. Thay would be rediculous to expect. Mills redemptopn would be able to restrain his vengence to allow a system of law and order to take place. One which john cant be a part of where he views himself as one who carries out the punishments.
