I know I'm super late but I feel like ranting. A parent can be both friend and a good parent. My mom was my best friend until the day she died but she also made sure all of us were cared for. Even homeschooled us while suffering from lupus. In contrast to my dad who was neither friend nor parent just an abusive ogre who hung around only to scream at us. I've met parents like what he's talking about but its so fakey. They use the "hey, buddy" mentality as an excuse to avoid responsibility or make the other parent look bad or build their own egos. "Youre such a big brave boy why dont you go to the store for me. Yes, by yourself. Your mom would never trust you to do that. you're lucky Im such a cool dad."
I just dont want people to think parents have to be like strict cold overlords in order to be "good responsible" parents either. It's ok to actually enjoy spending time with your kids. And to empathize with them sometimes.
