The first Shirley Temple movie my mom played for me when I was little ❤️

This wasn’t filmed in Switzerland, but Los Angeles. The mountains in Los Angeles look very much like the large mountains in Switzerland.

Used to watch this at my grandmothers every Saturday while wearing the little wooden shoes my mother used to wear on stage as a child.

I looked at this as a child I will be 61

I can still remember how frantic I was worrying that the Grandfather and Heidi would never find each other again. Oh, the anxiety - and then the relief!

Did the book handle the religious aspect the same way as the movie did?
In the anime, Grandfather not going to church had a more positive view to it (although it does not go deep into his past with his son that much, so dunno). I feel like the themes of the anime support living a life that makes one happy, instead of what one is supposed to live with, like riches and rules, which is especially showcased in the city arc.

Perhaps grandpa's more pagan (aka just living life by looking at nature) mindset was more endearing to Japanese sensibilities, meanwhile the Christian themes were more endearing to western audiences of 1900s. That would explain why Heidi is written as the one steering grandpa to "the right path" at the first 30 minutes. However, I do feel like focusing only on that takes away from Heidi as a character, since we get so little time to see how happy she truly is at the alps.

Always loved to watch Shirley Temple movies on Sundays as a child. Sometimes my mother would watch with me. She loved Shirley too.❤😊

Have just bought this on dvd, it was in really bad colour! Thank goodness for this! Christmas isn't the same without it.

I was born in 2000. My grandmother died in 06 but one of my few memories is sitting on the bed in her room watching this on VHS tape. I knew it was old but never realized quite how old.
