I'm calling a plumber. Your video helped me understand more about plumbing and why my efforts have mostly failed. I had no idea there were so many dfdifferent types of valves. 1-800 plumber help me.
ОтветитьUsing the push on type, is there any worry if it will pop off from water pressure if not pushed on completely?
ОтветитьWhat do you think about soldered vs compression fit shut-off valves ? Is one more leak proof ?
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьI am replacing the shut off valve under the bathroom faucets, which are copper pipes. After taking them off, can I use a shark bite?
ОтветитьI tried using a Ferrel puller (like the one in your video)to remove a Ferrell. However the diameter of the on the puller was not slightly smaller than the Washing machine's shut off valve compression nut. The washing machine shut off valve looks more like a hosebib rather than a sink shut off valve. I used the same puller on my bathroom sink valve and it worked perfectly. Are there different sized pullers?
ОтветитьThanks bud. I didn't know there was a special tool to remove the compression ring. I'll buy the tool, do the job, then give the tool to my cousin who does more plumbing jobs than I do.
ОтветитьDo I also have to change the whole valve when it's only leaking where you turn it. It's the one that's connected to the copper line with the green knob.
ОтветитьThey definitely can be fixed!
ОтветитьI used to see if I had room to cut off the compression fitting or reuse it. This time elected to try the compression remover tool, but I noticed by pulling the ring off it resizes the pipe down. With the copper pipe being a bit smaller it was kind of a bear to get the new compression ring to seal but was able to get it.
ОтветитьI just wanted to let you know that I have been watching your videos for years now. Every one of them is spectacular. At first your first couple, you could tell you were a little more nervous. But I absolutely love them all. I like the fact that you don't show yourself pulling up in a truck and then explaining how this is your friend's house that you've known for 20 years. When im just Trying to figure out how to debur a pipe. So keep up the good work, make as many as you can because the world needs decent information. And Without a bunch hype. Because as you obviously know your work should always speak for itself and yours most certainly shows you have integrity. . Sincerely, Deathmerchant
ОтветитьExcellent video! Worth the time to watch for anyone who might have a leaky shut-off valve!
ОтветитьWhy is the replacement plastic?
ОтветитьThese valves are replaced far too often. 90% of the time it only needs
a new valve stem and seal, the valve body is fine. $4 kit and much less work.
U missed the cpvc.
ОтветитьExcellent tutorial. Wish I'd found it sooner but I definitely feel better prepared for future work.
ОтветитьAdd WWW....$41.25 inc shipping.
ОтветитьThank you thank you thank you. That tool advise was amazing for the compression fitting. You saved me a couple of hundred buck. God bless you.
ОтветитьMy local plumbing store wanted $44.99 for a compression puller. I dealt with the drips bought it off Amazon for $15.49, and replaced most of the shut off valves in the house.
ОтветитьThe first valve dripping could probably be fixed by simply tightening the packing nut.
ОтветитьDon’t use cheap shut off valves
Ответитьdon't you need to disassemble the internals of that shut-off valve and remove the rubber o-ring/washer parts before soldering?
ОтветитьYou are super good
ОтветитьDon't understand why you didn't use thread tape?
ОтветитьWhy can’t these just be screw on screw off design….
ОтветитьI'm still scared of shark type (push fit) values, I used one of them but only because it was in a confined straight line "pipe-valve-pipe" situation: ===pipe==={shark valve} ===pipe===
because the pipes on both sides are fixed to the wall so the shark valve would not be able to come off even if the 'bite' fails
Great video! My confusion right now is that when I put the new compression valve on, the whole thing can spin freely and even easily slide right back off the supply pipe. This can't be correct, right??
ОтветитьThey can sometimes be fixed by replacing the bushing washer inside...except when they're so decrepit you can't close them, not sure what to do there LOL.
Ответитьwhy can't you fix a leaky valve? You should be able to take it apart and put a new washer in it. If you can't then sure replace it with one that you can.
ОтветитьIf I have a soldered valve can it be replaced with a press fit valve?
ОтветитьGood video, but that first valve that was leaking. Where the stem goes into the packing nut. Those become loose usually from opening and closing the valve but can on there own. Literally tighten that packing nut and its fixed
ОтветитьIs there a reason you didn't put teflon tape on the threads before tightening down the compression valve?
ОтветитьIs that tool works on pvc
ОтветитьThanks, Dude! I’ll let you know how it goes!
ОтветитьIt helps if the stub out protrudes further out from the wall.
ОтветитьVery useful! Thanks big boss, I’m electrician but sometimes I need to fix some plumbing at my home.
ОтветитьIf is front seal leaking sometimes just needs to be tightened
ОтветитьDishwashers
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьVery nice thank you
Ответитьgood job
ОтветитьIn terms of length, how much exposed copper pipe is needed for putting on a new compression shut off valve? I only have about 1" to work with.
ОтветитьQuestion for those "in the know": I have sweated on valves. If I heat and remove them, can I go back with a different type valve such as the compression valve or push fit (shark bite) valve?
ОтветитьUse a ball valve, and put a reducer on it with a 1/2" to 3/8 " so you can add a 3/8 male adapter to your sink ball valves last way longer then a ordinary sink valve .

Ответитьi watched, removed old compression fit, and put a new compression fit on. thing is, it was doing a pretty serious leak when i didn't "over tighten" it. so i put some tape on and tightened it hard. the leak stopped, why did you say not to over-tighten these?
and the remover tool was 100% necessary.
They can be fixed. Just buy a new valve core or washer set. I have ones from 1950 and they still make the parts. Still though, I do prefer the 1/4 turn ones since the lead bushing can leak if it's used a lot.
Ответитьi'm sitting watching your video, after like 4 other videos from various sources wondering "how am i going to de-sweat this thing it's 1mm from the wall" then as i'm watching you show the different fitting it finally hits me "oh...mine is a compression valve. welp guess i can return this torch i bought"
Ответитьwhen you use compression fittings. always sand with the finest sand paper 1000, 2000. otherwise, it will leak. and, you're going to blame someone else...
