dos2 creates false expectqations for other crpgs as a starter game,at least it did for me.I loved the open map on that game and how I dont use dices for every single thing.Later I kind of liked pathfinder wotr slightly better but it took a lot of time for me to love it.
ОтветитьThere's a good sveral of these I hesitate to count as crpgs, all of which were right on the edge between crpg and modern rpg dominance. I think you and I simply draw the line in different places. No point here, just an observation.
Ответитьplanescape is my favorite game still, 16 years after my first playthrough
Ответитьabsolutely criminal Disco Elysium isn't on this list, but otherwise 100%
ОтветитьAny good CRPG for console?.
ОтветитьIs it bad, that I played them all? And, most of them at release? Damn I'm getting old.
ОтветитьBased
ОтветитьDragon Age universe is so amazing.
ОтветитьI’m very pleased that you didn’t include the overrated Disco Elysium on this list.
On the other hand, leaving Skyrim off is silly.
I couldn't even find how to get off the space station at the beginning of ktor 2
ОтветитьI always thought Temple of Elemental Evil was a top effort and did a brilliant job at bringing the system to life.
ОтветитьThat's a great compilation! I would personally disagree with your take on Dragon Age: Origins and Pillars of Eternity: Deadfine. DAO I think still holds up remarkably well, and I don't even consider it outdated - it's for me lore, writing, and gameplay-wise, at the top. As for PED, I loved the first game, and so I was hopeful for it. Still, I quit it and that's rare for me. It was just very clunky and not enjoyable, especially the ship mechanics.
Oh, and I should say I enjoyed Kingmaker a lot more than Wrath of the Righteous, and I am aware that is not the norm ahah So maybe I just enjoy things that other players don't value as much?
As for others that people might be interested in, Witcher 1 and 2, plus Shadowrun are good contenders.
With the success of BG3, we MAY just get a Tyranny sequel.
Ответитьreally hate realtime combat crpgs, something in controls just bugs my mind. tried PoE but i just couldnt get useed to it, think RTS-like combat would fit it better, witht "hold position", "stop", "attack area", etc. controls; big fan of turn-based ones tho
ОтветитьDisco Elysium is not in this list?
ОтветитьDidn't you enjoy Disco Elysium?
Ответитьreally amazing list, especially Arcanum, Planescape Torment, Id ADD:
1. Morrowind, unique Tes setting, I played alot of Oblivion and some of Skyrim, but Morrowind was special one
2. Gothic 1-2 and maybe 3 as well, but first two games were so special before trying to do Oblivion like game with 3rd one, progress and leveling, buying equipment in this game is so satisfying.
3. Vampire the Masquerade Redemption was actually really amazing to me, great story
4. Icewind Dale1-2, amazing setting, nice sprite graphic, good battles, adds to the BG experience , never enough of those games ^^
5. Lionheart , amazing start in city of Barcelona, then it turns into terribly boring and tedious and insanely hard hack & slashing, such a waste :/
6. and come good old hack & slashing , dungeon siege 2
Played everything. Damn, I hope The Bloodlines 2 won't dissapoint me. The World of Darkness is so unique, that it deserves good video game.
ОтветитьPlanescape:Torment IS KING GAME STORYLINE
ОтветитьI'm not a big player of CRPGs myself, but I did really love Arcanum. It might been a buggy mess, unbalanced to the point of broken, but I really loved the setting and dialogue. It's pretty much the game that showed me that I don't necessarily dislike CRPGs in general, I just dislike the D&D rules that so many CRPGs are based on.
I think your channel will be helpful to find good CRPGs to try that aren't based on D&D.
I especially want to give the Divinity series a good try. I've only played a bit of Divine Divinity but it seemed cool. From what I hear, Larian was basically forced to make that one an action RPG to follow the success of games like Diablo. They didn't want to do that, which is why following games dropped that aspect.
Speaking of Divinity, I've noticed that Original Sin 2 comes up in most of your lists, but never any mention of OS1. Did you not play that game despite having played so many CRPGs or was it just not that good in comparison?
Finally, a question maybe you can help me with - there's a CRPG with a cool magic system I always wanted to try, but can't remember what it was. It was something to do with environmental effects of spells, like casting ice magic on water would freeze it, or fire magic would ignite things, and that would all have an effect on combat.
Excellent list, i would just add Gothic1&2 and TES3: Morrowind
ОтветитьBG 3 whetted my appetite for CRPGs so this is a great list. Thanks
ОтветитьMy only criticism of Dragon Age: Origins is, why is it so brown?
ОтветитьDo a vid on xcom2
ОтветитьI see Arcanum I hit like.
ОтветитьMorrowind
ОтветитьI'd really want to add Dragons Dogma to this list. It feels like so many later CRPG's took inspiration from it, yet its pawn system and story just need to be experienced.
ОтветитьThese games are interesting but so time consuming that I might have to take a sabbatical to have time to play them.
Either that or wait until I’m retired and played them all back to back!
Divinity original sin 2 is what got me into Crpgs^^
The second one i've played was PoE Deadfire and also loved that
ah yes divine divinity i ocasionaly fire it up for that early 2000's feel
Ответитьfor games like Wotr and PoE2 do you recommend playing real time or turn based?
ОтветитьDeadfire is absolutely one of the most beautiful and well designed crpgs its so so good
Ответитьlove both pillars but i must say the experience its just much better if you played the first one as well which is also amazing on its own.
ОтветитьI've started playing Solasta and absolutely love it. I play a lot of pen and paper table top rpgs with friends, and Solasta definitely gives me that feel that I'm on this awesome adventure with my friends beside me.
ОтветитьThe moment they’ll announce an Arcanum remake or something I swear to god I’ll cry for 2 days straight
ОтветитьDisco Elysium should be here
ОтветитьI never finshed many crpgs but I did finished Shadowrun : Returns and Dragonfall
ОтветитьWizardry 8
ОтветитьDoes your name Mortym means More Time? I just wish to have time life you to play hehe
Ответитьwastelands 3
ОтветитьThank you for putting Deadfire in it's place as a masterpiece, it's criminally underrated. I was surprised you didn't mention just how good the voice acting, story, and general environment is on top of the 100x better gameplay that it offers vrs. the dry and extremely exposition heavy original.
ОтветитьMorrowind is a must play, especially on OpenMW. its set in the world of Tamriel which many people know so its already a good jumping in point, but its also just a really good rpg with some of the best worldbuilding in gaming, and it has spellcrafting
ОтветитьTemple of Elemental Evil!
ОтветитьWe need to start a funding campaign for Tyranny 2, SUCH wasted potential!
ОтветитьGreat video! A lot of my favs here. I haven’t played any of the modern crpg’s yet. I have to get around to them soon. I’ll use your video to guide my choices. I think I’ll do Tyranny first.
ОтветитьOh and Planscape and Disco.... Plan escape is a masterpiece. Baldur's 3 will be legendary
ОтветитьBaldur's Gate up to Throne, Iceland dale 1and 2 (2 is the technical best of the infinity engine games) and pillars of eternity2
ОтветитьI think planescape only made it cause of Morte
ОтветитьWould love to see a list like this for tactical RPG’s.
ОтветитьSpeaking of divine divinity, it must be added that this game has a outstanding sundtrack. It's probably one of the best game soundtrack ever created.
Ответить
