Also don't be cocky, and do half ass shady work (which one of the negatives of only working in a shop and not going to auto tech school)

Went to Uni. For nothing automotive. Have almost no formal training. Fell into being a tech by grace of my ex father in law, may he rest in peace. Learned it all OJT, love what I do, made the best friends in my life, met the girl of my dreams. Tech school is awesome, wish I’d gotten the formalities outta the way, but I love my life and my path. You wanna do this, just jump, as Bayek of Siwa once said. Listen to this woman. She speaks truth. She’s a cool lady. Hear me?

I don't know why I have so much trouble watching her videos. I love the content but something biological just makes it uncomfortable to watch. I wish I could get over it, I guess I'm just weak to some sort of conditioning perhaps.

I just started working as a lube tech at Toyota.. before I was at a tire center at BJs wholesale for a few months. No school! But I definitely recommend people look into local community colleges. Mine has a great program that I really wish I went to but I instead got a degree in another major that I never really enjoyed in the first place😅

As a former auto instructor and shop foreman I suggest getting a job doing anything else. It's not worth the damage you'll do to your body. If I could go back I'd do something in healthcare like a lab or imaging tech. If you love working on things get into ag or construction repairs/manufacturing. The automotive industry as a whole is straight up shady. Very few gen Z last beyond 3 years which is why there is a huge shortage. The auto industry strives on screwing over technicians and especially customers. Just don't.

First off thank you very much (apologies in advance this could be a long winded comment 😮) i had to pause here and after laughing for a few minutes and shaking my head say i guess maybe I did something right in my life after all. My first job on the industry was running around my grandparents lawn equiptment shop at the age of 3 in 1967 in Clearwater FL being the entertainment and distractor, after a year or so I had to relocate back to ohio however over the next 8 years i had the pleasyre of folling my Dad around (occasionally) at his progression in the industry at an Oldsmobile dealership several differant ( i remember a texaco and 2 different Arco) 3 bay service stations he owned and operated, a Montgomery Wards whe4e he was service mgr and the same for a sears then firestone franchises l, from 12-16 (Dad moved to Florida) i was busy being a teanager yhen i met an older (40 something) guy with a small shop who was once an actual NASCAR Driver (one race only and i think he broke down) who raced ASA late model sportsman. Anyway i " volunteered to help around the shop to get to go to the races with him and be on the "pit crew" that was he and I lol... I met through hin a guy working at a junk yard who got me a job as "tire man" them a parts puller... (All things you mentioned) ended up many years later in Colorado springs where in the early 1980's Dad and I owned the largest independent automotive repair shop in the state with 17 bays and 32 employees lol. Many years later while working for a friend back in ohio again, as a junk yard dog and wrecker driver i unexpectly jad to assume operational controll of my friends entire operation Out of the blue one day as due to a personal tragedy he just didnt show up and was gone for maybe 2 months but it was a heavy diesel commercial shop with major national accts. Just from my exposure and watching and listeng to dad i somehow knew what and how and if i didnt know i would call him and ask lol went from 10.00 an hour to a 50k anual salary stayed there another 2 years the off on other adventures... What a crazy thing. Ended up in parts and accessories eventually and am now retired and living my dream of being a hermit on the side of a mountain with my closest neighbors 3 1/2 miles away... No more shops for me lol. Moral of the story is listen watch pay attention soak it all in and someday you will be in the right place at the right time to put it all to work for you so be consistent honest fair practice positive good business scruples (means morals or values) a good work ethic. Is better than any degree and if its not fun or enjoyable for God sakes dont keep doing it no matter what it is... Omg how uncanny i was almost done with the video and i dodnt mention b4 but as an edit (unbeliveable) my Dad F James (Jim ) Price proposed chartered ran the First Boy scouts of America Explorers Automotive post... I have his original proposal to the central ohio BSA Council his authorization to put it together along with a few pics of the first group of young men in that post... So you teaching a Girlscout group is amazing in my mind for if Dad had not sold the BSA on the idea their might never have been any automotive group in scouts at all.... Im astounded... Wow
Dad would have loved the synchronicity of me watching this video AND his Birthday was October 12th he would have been 81 this year.... Peace and continued success in the industry to you... Im still shaking my head lol lol unbelievable ❤🎉🤩😄

my advice is GET OUT of the auto industry !!!! 14 yrs dealerships, 8 yrs independent shops and it's never been more difficult, expensive and unreasonable. engineers hate techs, everyone wants to pay flag-hour from the mitchell book or similar.....sure, working on nearly new dealership fodder isn't too bad....but yeah, unless you're the one calling the shots (shop owner, etc.) no one wants to wrench professionally anymore.......great vid though, and good advice for personal interest.
