It was a common practice in the 70's, the child who could not perform a reading or writing exercise was sent to a corner of the classroom and donkey ears were placed on him.
At that time, no one imagined that this child suffered from some trauma or a learning disorder, such as autism or dyslexia or other problems related to his development that were not understood at that time.

Teachers take note

I like the clothes and a little bit more stuff like writing with ink pins and the old styled class room and their games and toys from the Victorian era but I don't really like the teachers and all that harsh stuff some things are to like and other are to hate.

At school in the early 80s in England, the teachers were just as strict.
If you did something wrong or were naughty, you'd have to go and stand in the corner with your hands on your head for the rest of the lesson.
If you were talking in assembly, you'd be told to stand up in the middle of the room of hundreds of kids, with your hands on your head, and then you'd be embarrassed in front of the entire school by being asked to repeat what you'd just been talking about.
It was harsh, but fair. modern kids would have a nervous breakdown and need counselling :-P

A very good video and one that reinforces how lucky we are to be alive today rather than then. I was a teacher, late 60s to '08 and saw, during that time, both extremes of colleagues from martinet to liberal. Until the late '50s, class sizes were huge by modern standards, up to 55 children in some cases, so teachers had to be strict in their routine to get everything done, or they'd be in trouble with autocratic Principals and Inspectorate, who all too often tended to treat their staff like recalcitrant children. The best teachers did and do, operate on the firm but kind principle with warm humour and a questioning imaginative spirit encouraged as long as the boundaries of mutual respect are not over-stepped.

Well for one, kids shouldn't have to fear both their teachers AND their parents. They need a place to feel safe. It's no wonder older generations grew up to become abusive. Abuse creates abusers, and the toxic cycle continues.

This teacher is mean. I would not want her for an instructor.

The reason i watched this because In my school i learn about schools In the past I learned that if you come to school late you get slapped By a wooden ruler And The dunces hat or cap Means stupit Person And Teachers are not Alowed to Slap children with canes only the princabal Can And Princabal Would be knowed as Headmaster And if you chat in class After school you have to stay at school And write i must not Chatter during class 100 times

I went to school in the 60s and the cane was always on the teachers desk.....as a deterrent...and was used often on us pupils...but most of the time we did deserve it....and a few teachers were cruel in the use of it....I think it was a mistake to ban it when they did, because some schools today are out of control.....

How is school different today? Children are sloppy, disrespectful of teachers and other authority figures, curse their teachers, and threaten them with bodily harm. Teachers are forbidden from disciplining the students in any form, lest they be charged with "brutality." Children regard school as a bore, a joke, and have no real wish to learn anything. The subjects are more politically correct, such as racial sensitivity training, gender sensitivity training, African studies, women's studies, teaching BLM, ANTIFA, the LGBTQ lifestyle, and other liberal abominations and atrocities.

Other Victorian school punishments:

The stocks, tying a log on your back, being hoisted up in a roped basket towards the ceiling and being caned
