As an engineer that came to Australia to start a new life and worked in construction for one year I can definitely say that you are 100% right! I just quit my job bc I saved money and I gonna rest my mind while looking for something else.
There is no quality of life, old guys offering a job promotion only if I give them sex ( even that I have a partner, they don’t care… ), etc etc etc
Man, I have so much stories to share that happened with me and other people that I meet and every time that I demanded respect they laughed and said that I choose this life…
People are so disgusting nowadays that I realised that my mental health is the most important thing! I used to work in an office in my country where I was respected and also had the chance to improve my skills and man, I miss that environment! My IQ dropped working on sites bc I had to deal with a lot of stress and also wake up everyday at 5am to get ready to work.
A couple of months ago a new employee started to work on site and he decided to expose what was happening on site and what happened? NOTHING! So this guy quit the job and I am glad that I meet him bc I got used to see shit every day and think that was normal.
Thanks for the video! All the best for you
😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьThe trades are dirty jobs. Worked by rough people. Go figure. Bottom line, the work aint meant to be fun. But its a simple and necessary line of work. I think, and i have found evident in my own experience, that the work itself can be incredibly fulfilling, and the rest can go to hell for all I care. Dont worry about the culture. Dont worry about the folks around you. Work well. Work hard. If you do that, you'll find much more satisfaction and pleasure in your job. Hell, people will respect you a whole lot more too. You can be the most awkward person on site, but if youre also the hardest worker, nobody will disrespect you more than you deserve. Folks need to atop complaining so much. Millenials and Gen Z do nothing but complain. I grew up with everyone telling me that i have so much to complain about, but nobody ever points out what we all ought to be thankful for. Bottom line, control what you can control and dont tey to control what you cant. Complaining wont do you any good. If you dont like something, do something about it. At the end of the day, the bottom line is this: We're all responsible for our actions, and thats all we need to worry about.
ОтветитьI think it kinda depends on what you're doing I'm a millennial and a plumber but I do think this probably isn't the line of work for you believe it or not a lot of us like the "rough neck" mentality I do get what you're saying about the criminal element in construction crews but I also see beauty in giving guys a chance to get their shit together I have seen guys who got out of prison and made something of their lives being a tradesmen I'm a military veteran I think that definitely helps in my case I kinda feel at home in construction but maybe if you gonna stay blue collar think about like electrician or hvac something that's just not gonna have that rougher crowd good luck to ya though buddy
ОтветитьSorry you have to deal with those people.
Are all construction companies like this?
Are there construction companies out there who carefully vet-out their employees to make sure they are not deplorable people?
Never believe anything anybody in construction says about anything, ever. Never trust anybody you meet, ever. It's a vile trade, filled with the worst backstabbing scum imaginable & they all want to backstab YOU, all the time.
ОтветитьI'm a security guard. I was recently posted to my first construction site. Best worksite I've had so far. The construction supervisors and workers are decent stand-up guys and a few gals.
ОтветитьI came here to relate to pain working mediocre jobs as a millennial and encountering all kinds of bs and I just have to say thanks for the comedy
that southern accent yeehaw 🤣🤣
Suck it up
ОтветитьThe problem is everytime you make a minor mistake which we all do no matter how long you been working for, you get absolutely blasted for it and (i am all for roasting eachother and banter as a joke) but you can tell when someone is being an asshole and legitimately insulting you.
ОтветитьThe lack of safety usually comes from laziness and incompetence.
ОтветитьSouth and central Florida I started construction for the quick money, stayed for the Latinas on site. True story
ОтветитьWatching this while waiting for my concert to get here. I hear you bro
ОтветитьI have a cdl but for some reason I choose to stay in construction dealing with careless, backstabbing, high horse, lieing ass old ass kids. I want to succeed in this field still because I find it to be very important in life. I want nothing to learn and grow but I can’t find that. Then the pay is about the same as a fast food worker if not less. Then in a small town most of these companies aren’t even building things, it’s like maintenance and odd jobs.
ОтветитьIt’s bragged about because they have been through it all. Thick and thin then hell and back; these people came from the worst possible circumstances and have “made it”, they have a honest job, make honest money, don’t have to worry about the law or headaches. They are proud of how far they came. Maybe one day will have their own white picket fences and be better parents then the ones they had, and teach their kids not to make the same mistakes they did. When you hear them talk about their history, there is a lesson in there for you to learn.
ОтветитьViral! do weekly shorts on stuff like that!!!!! hilarious
ОтветитьValid points. Sounds like you work a relatively low skilled job. The higher skilled you go, the higher focus it takes to aquire those credentials, the less likely you have to deal with everything mentioned in your video.
ОтветитьAn unmanly an and intelligent man that failed and is with the good ol boys
ОтветитьA lot of guys in construction are low class, behaviourally speaking, for sure. But a lot of millennials are weak minded (and physically weak…low testosterone in in modern men has been proven, and it’s a serious problem) and simply lack the toughness to work around the kind of guys who can toss cinder block with one hand and light a cig with the other.
Maybe there’s a middle ground?
So true man here i am after 7 years stuck at a dead end job no money living paycheck to paycheck smh
ОтветитьIt kinda depends on the actual trade as well. Some are worse than others
ОтветитьBro, I agree!! I f**king hate carpenters union. I’ve never seen man backstab each other like they did here. Gossip, they fake the phunk. They lay u off for any reason. They dislike u. U are whitewashed. If u don’t believe in Conspiracy theories. U get laid off. If u are a hard worker. They lay u off so they can keep the lazy workers smh! Dudes are high and nobody says anything. If u abide by the rules immediately laid off smh! I left for the plumbers union. And I don’t regret it
ОтветитьThey liked left there tools and we have to pick them up those bosses are curled
ОтветитьOffices are full of full on bullies. Covert. But maliciousness. Normalized by average people, too cowardly to stop it
ОтветитьWhat I can't understand in construction is how these guys spend more time watching each other than doing their own task.
It's actually quite amazing to watch them multi task it. I use be a truck driver and I had peace and quiet 90 percent of the day
hey man..maybe its best that you find another career.. your obviously intelligent.. take less money and go work somewhere else. Low key you seem to be loosing your mind working with those dudes. save your mental health and go work somehwhere else
ОтветитьWelcome to the construction industry! I have been doing construction for 35 years and it does suck. One must have thick skin and no fear of laborious work, getting dirty/wet, being uncomfortable in the heat, getting hurt, and dealing with idiot co-workers.
It's too late for me to get out of it, but you are young enough to find another profession. Do it. The construction industry is a thankless profession. We are all just a number that will be used and discarded when we can't physically do it anymore.
Oh nah cunt I’m Australian and it so fuckin funny that shit happens the same way over here. An osha violation for you is called an O.HS violation. Pronounced ohns
ОтветитьI work in construction management as an owner's rep. So I am onsite with the GC's and hardly ever interact much with subs. However, even so... I have heard some of the colorful conversations. A lot of very rough and immature guys.... but there are definitely some good respectable guys too. I can't imagine being a woman anywhere near a construction site. These guys are absolute animals.... The stuff they sketch up inside the porta-cans.... make a COD chat seem normal....
ОтветитьThats a hot take 😂 your in the wrong field , try stand up , ya had me crackin up
ОтветитьBeen a labourer for three years. Ended up there during the pandemic as I lost my job in the beginning. You sir have given me the push I needed to just quit.
ОтветитьEating food in a Porta John is beyond psychotic.
ОтветитьThis guy is definitely going places.
Ответитьsounds like union issues!
ОтветитьIm 31 and made it from apprentice laborer at 20 to superintendent now. I never threw anyone under the bus, kept a good relationship with everyone from the young apprentices, the upper management, and the old timers. Even as a superintendent I NEVER tell myself I know everything. I learn new shit every single fuckin day. The biggest issue in construction right now is the old timers trying to burn the young up and comers by telling them on the boss and make them look bad. For you young guys, just kill them with kindness, cover your basis, and stand up for yourself if they snitch on you to the boss.
ОтветитьDude you're in the wrong business...Move on!!!
ОтветитьSomeone once told me that the crew says a lot about the boss. The last crew I worked on for 4 years. There was some of what you were talking about, but the majority of the guys were normal, every day dudes. Sure, some smoked weed. Some drank. But as a whole? They were pretty normal. Some have been to prison, but I wouldn't say they're bragging about it. Most would just assume talk about their kids or dogs. They'll play jokes on you and tease you, but they'll share their extra rain gear if you don't have any and bring you Oreos for lunch. I started at 18 and couldn't look anyone in the eye, much less hold a conversion. These guys were patient enough to teach me and we still keep in touch.
Everyone has their safety areas. I'm guilty of not using a guard on my grinder or gloves for concrete, but I'll be protecting my lungs and eyes.
Blame it on my redneck roots, but these guys seem smart, funny, and like decent people. Some of them are entirely sober. Some... Not so much.
Just my two cents. Take it for what it's worth.
I have a very bad background and became a professional. Got my ass in school. Dont glorify that life dog. Get a degree.
ОтветитьIt sucks that there are more grown boys than there are men working
ОтветитьThe region in which you work matters a lot. Also I'm glad you work for a company that takes safety seriously. I believe the construction trades have as wide a range of people that can be found in any other sector. For that reason I think you're being a little judgemental even though there is some truth to your venting. Remember you are in the trades and there are many who are way smarter than you also. Work your way up and out of the trenches and you'll see there are some great people still building the world we live in.
Ответитьthis guy sounds really annoying
ОтветитьI had never thought of this as a global issue. The situation in the manufacturing and construction sectors in my country is so dire that as an engineer, I sometimes (most of the time) have to do technician jobs because we are experiencing a shortage of young workers. If I didn't love my job, I probably wouldn't tolerate what I'm going through for a second. Greetings from Turkiye.
ОтветитьYes I agree with most people in the comments, most people on the jobsite have no class, they be literal clowns, and construction workers get such a bad rep because of their behavior, the pay isn’t bad, you can live off the career you can make but the people there can be ignorant and immature, but not all places are like that.
Ответитьconstruction is just hard work. The dirtier the job, the rougher the dudes that do it. I have worked in the skilled trades on and off all my life and most of the people I have worked with have been real gentlemen. I also did Phd research in the Academic world and beneath the civilized veneer Academia is much nastier. On a construction site you may be told to fuck off, but Academics will destroy a lifetime of research on a momentary whim. If you want to work with more sophisticated people you need to upgrade your skill level.
ОтветитьAll they care about is getting that workers comp payment
ОтветитьNot smart enough buddy white enough
ОтветитьI see myself in u. With that said i would say get the hell out of that industry. It's a complete gong show. I've seen full on fights at job sites multiple times, incredibly toxic behaviour due to boredom I assume. And the list goes on. I would say if I were doing the work by myself I would have no issues at all. I find it actually peaceful but once you get a team of hooligans hanging around it's no good. Always used to tell my friend who were normal while working at these sites, that some of these people I would of never though existed. I only seen characters like them in movies. Like complete weirdos. A horrible workplace. For every 3 or 4 good people there was 1 or 2 jackasses lmao. Drugs and alcholol being used on site. List goes on.
And I get it. It's hard to find good workers esp in this industry if any so seems like a managment will literally hire anyone. That makes it a huge problem on its own
I work in an office as a project manager of construction projects. It's the worst job ever!
I used to work in the field swinging a hammer and hated it so much that I decided to go to school to get out. The management side of construction is in some ways worse. The adversarial nature of this work is just exhausting and never ending. The constant stress is going to kill me.
