Personal Protection: Flare Gun

The flares are longer than some shotshells so may have difficulty feeding in some shotguns. But if they chamber properly, then yes, you can shoot flares out of your 12 ga. shotgun.

Disappointing that Paul couldn’t cook the meat target while he was shooting it with the flare gun. Another informative video, thanks. I have often wondered about this.

Boaters are sometimes stuck using flare guns as weapons . Some countries LOVE to confiscate ANY weapon , even bear spray . At night flares would be intemidating .

What if you put a shot shell adapter in it and fire a 410 or 20 gauge out of it? Would it work?

This would work very well for home defense. You shoot the intruder with the flare gun and it bounces off setting the house on fire. The intruder then leaves to avoid dying in the fire.

So, the scene in "The Final Countdown" where Charles Durning fired a flare gun inside what I think was a navy Seahawk helicopter causing it to instantly exploded in a huge fireball wasn't quite realistic? I am shocked, shocked to learn that Hollywood would produce such a movie!

26.5 flare gun with insert with a 410/45 works great at about 15-yards . plus you can buy empty 26.5 shell cases to load your own creations

I have seen videos of polar bear attacks where they had specialflairs that exploded on impact to frighten the polar bears away. I wonder if these would have a greater effect. Only designed to be a non leathal frightening device but would it really be non leathal or even leagal to use directly on animals or people?

This is a very practical an pretty scientific video. I was thinking about this as a practical means of bear defense in Canada where even slingshots and pocket knives are illegal now. Seems it won't do much against an angry black bear, sadly.

Try attaching a straightened out fish hook to the front of the flare cartridge. Serious burns if the hook keeps the burning flare in the target.

What if you put the flairs in a 12g shotgun?
Will the extra barrel increase it's accuracy, speed, and effectiveness??

Better off for "Safety" using ALL METAL flare guns.
If using a plastic flare gun make sure the insert adapter is chambered for small caliber only.
Such as .22LR or .410
There is a video of a guy using the .22 insert adapter. He fired successfully
".22 short" multiple times before a small crack appeared in the frame.
I personally would not recommend it.
