Search - 4 Day homeless solution to permanent housing and you will see a video on how China has the solution that will empower
the homeless to build permanent housing in 4 days. The housing is worth of being called luxury and it cost less and will last for 1,000 years and is 90% more energy efficient than your own home.

The idea of meritocracy (and it’s counterpart, the $ guilt of the bourgeoisie) has been at the heart of liberal capitalism since the beginning of the 19th century at the very least… Most western countries have incorporated some social-democratic policies after the 1930S-1940S, but the US got stuck in the psycho\fear of the left…. Do you guys actually, really, believe that someone lives on the street because “they’re not good enough”? In an era where we discuss mental health more than ever, where all indicators show the very real economical and\or structural problems that lead to this, don’t you feel like the “merit” argument is a little ridiculous? 600 000 homeless people would be sufficient for a relocalization program that would save Detroit…. Even if only 10k people would actually accept the challenge. The most fortunate citizens in the US could raise a fortune for such a project with only 1% of their annual taxes, if anyone cared to pull those funds out of the tax heavens where they’re hidden. Aren’t you tired of voting for the same old centrist oligarchs, time after time? There’s a true risk for radicalization and extremism right now. And historically, it never turns out to the advantage of the middle/working class….

The problem in the USA in particular blue states is that the issue is compounded by the Homeless Industrial Complex. States have set up programs that do nothing for the homeless but keeps bureaucrats in six figure jobs. They don't want to end or curb homelessness because that would mean no homeless no fat cushy bureaucrats jobs. And the people in the bottom rung still aren't off the streets while politicians use buzzwords like "task force" to make it sound like they're doing something but in fact they are doing nothing. Voters enable this attitude by voting for politicians who have a D by the end of their names. It's a broken situation but doing nothing is the name of the game

I think it's a little funny the video says, "Finland only has 5,000 people homeless, or .1% of the population," and goes on to say "America has 600,000 homeless people." If they added the percentage for America, it'd be .2%.

I agree there shouldn't be 600,000 homeless people in America, but it's manipulative to say, "Look at how only 5000 people (in a country of 5 million) is .1% of the population," and say "look at how awful 600,000 people is (in a country of 333,000,000 people that adds up to .2%)"

It feels manipulative and even kind of silly not to include. You could still say that's almost twice as many homeless people when you take population into account. But, "twice as many homeless people when you take percentage of the population into account" doesn't have the same chutzpah as "look at 600,000 people versus only 5000!"

Umm....there are 600,000 homeless in the US against a population of 330,000,000. What does that math out to?

About 0.18%. 😂😂😂

I have been working with the homeless in one of the cities in the US where there is a really big issue w/the homeless. Part of the problem is that it had become A platform for politicians to stand on and rally for(as in creating more funding for Housing First models etc)or against(want to arrest people out of it. Basically making laws that make poverty a crime). Even in a "Liberal" city with the politicians that want to help the Homeless,mm in power? THEY never really help the homeless. They never allocate the funds the way they should. When I say Housing First i mean that across the board. Most all of the Billions of dollar's that the city has that goes to this issue, should go towards building affordable housing. Instead the money is split between the hundreds of small non-profits in the city. I call them band aids. The citg spend billions on bandaids when what is needed is a cast. And never forget, A LOT OF people are making a lot of money off of people being homeless. Dont get it twisted. This is rarely the people with boots on the ground doing the work, but I have never worked for any non-profit, housing first modeled program that had people in the leadership roles making less than 6 figures a year. Meanwhile the people who are working on the front lines with a highly traumatized population of people that have mental health issues and are highly likely to have SUD as well, the people really doing the work are often one paycheck a way from becoming homeless themselves! I always remind my colleagues, especially the holier than though ones that say shit like they are "just doing gods work", etc., I always remind them of us 😂miprofitting from people living on the streets. I am working at an organization niw that foes pay us a living wage. And dont get me wrong, its nice to not struggle to eat and pay my bills, but deep down i know that we are just a band-aid too. Our program is onky really successful if we are abke to house people permanently at one of the scarce housing resources available to us. What that means is i am watching my clients being pushed into housi g thst may not ralky be a fit for them because it is all we have to offer them. In my eyes that is ot a success because if they end up being evicted because they didnt have the tools to be successful their to begin with, then we are responsible for pushing them to go. On the otger hand we have to have beds upen for funders. So we have a contract with the Transportatio Dept. If they call and saycwe need sn encampment cleared of 50-60 people we have to clear it and we have to have those rooms available or we so not get more funding from them. If we put a ckuent into housing that he/she cant be succesful in then in 6 months when they are evicted they will go back out on the streets, if we couldn't find them a bed at another program. When that happens all the hard work they, and we,put in to get their ID, to get the warrants off their records, to get SS card, to get them into an MAT program or onto treatment, alk thatcwork was wasted. Not to mention the money spent was wasted and most importantly, that client has one mire trauma to deal withand they really do not need anymore trauma. It is literally the last thingvthey need. In their minds they have failed and they are once again getti g the message that they are less than human and that they are not deserving of a roof over their heads.😢

As an American this obvious and simple way to combat homelessness would make it about 2 seconds in the GOP before someone says that it wouldn’t work. We’re so far out of touch of making progress and working on social problems like this. Americans would say that this is a handout and be offended if someone was serious about this in the states

This just confirms what America's policies have always been "have a problem, make it worse and then it creates fodder for politicians to pontificate about. Where everyone is aware that there is actually no incentive or action going to be taken to resolve or minimally address the problem. So homelessness, safe havens for climate crisis victims clean up of necessary rivers and lakes or current disaster relief. America will wait until chaos and catastrophe is peaked and shim shod put together a catastrophic answer to the problems that can no longer be ignored. American citizens are going to lose badly and unfortunately citizens will take it out on each other as always when this happens. With the government as always saying people are just crazy.

I realize your whole economic education comes from some socialist but government does not produce value, people do. If govenrment uses it to do something "for free" it actually spends value it's citizens created on something. Housing is commodity because you need somebody else to build and maintain it. You need material and hard work to build a house and you want to give it away to people who produce no value while paying for it with money you took from people who do produce value. I doubt you have any principles to tell you punishing people for working to reward people who don't is evil but in practice you are making housing more expensive by interfering with the market so the people who actually produce value are more likely to give up and get their own free house instead.
I live in a country that offers generous social benefits, these policies over the decades created underclass that does nothing except growing exponentionally to capitalize on child welfare programs and make every area they are put in unlivable until they destroy the accomodation (look up "Sídliště Chánov" on Google images if you are interested in what your bright social housing future might look like) and move to a next one we pay for. As a social worker myself I can assure you the enthusiasm to throw money at people would leave you too if you met the mother of 12, all of them disabled thanks to prenetal drug use and "accidents" during their toddler years (welfare payments are much higher if you children are disabled), who just avoided prison because she had another kid, who also pimps her own underaged daughters. And another such case every week.

Y’all are delusional you do realize that most of you are closer to being homeless than you are to ever being rich in your life. The way Canada and the US handles homelessness and homeless people in general is terrible . Look at Finland and their capital no one is on the streets and that’s because of the way they handle homelessness it’s completely different from how are US and Canada handling and so much more effective. It’s possible to end homelessness with the housing first method, which is proven to be successful, homelessness in Finland is still going down even during the pandemic. Meanwhile, the continuum of care approach that we take in America is only making things worse, especially with the lower wages and inflation happening.

It’s rather easy and as "experimental" I’m surprised how experimental assholes in the us and other countries are trying to be. Take care of what people can’t handle on their own and they’ll take care of themselves. That’s what a government is supposed to do. but in on top of all the hardships you add more anxiety and fear you’ll only have a crumbling society, and soon that will overcome that system I’m making things more expensive and earning money harder, the ladder of poverty will only climb until there is no more people between you and poverty.

American policies are obsessed with criminalizing the poor and decriminalizing capitalism, corporations and the politicians on the payroll. We are so good at it that even the poor vote against their own best interests. Demonizing the person on any level gives us the false sense that we are climbing a ladder to the American Dream.. We are in an economic nightmare and we are closing our eyes to the scary parts hoping for a happy ending. Bravo to Finland and housing first policies..

In the US, people want guns to defend themselves against "criminals" coming to get them or taking their stuff. People feel unsafe walking around at night, particularly in certain areas. A lot of this is stemmed to homelessness. People without a home are viewed as innately criminal. Like they're going to steal from you or hurt you, and they, by their nature of being, make certain areas especially dangerous. If a home was a right, these very people might be less likely to be exposed to drugs, prostitution and theft just to get by. These criminal activities would be reduced as well as the need for average Americans to own guns. Cities would be generally cleaner and safer for everyone. Children would not be growing up on the street and not streamlined into an uphill battle to get out of poverty.
