Sorry (not sorry), but I'm gonna have to call BS on this. I have the A1 from Profoto and the Godox V1 and there is basically no difference in quality. The only difference that I've been able to notice is that the Profoto A1's battery drains about 10 times faster than the Godox V1. The one advantage of the Profoto is that it will not shut down with multiple rapid fire shots in a row. But I have never had a reason to shoot rapid fire in my sessions. But if you constantly shoot rapid fire, then the Godox V1 would not be for you b/c after several rapid shots (about 20 within a 20 second span), it will shut down to cool off, even if it's not really hot externally. Other than that, I'd recommend the V1, on cost savings alone. I use the Profoto B1 and A1 together a lot and mix in the V1 as a filler. But if I'm just using a single speedlight, I usually grab the V1 b/c I can take 1 spare battery and be good for several hours. Whereas using the A1, I have to take several batteries with me.
ОтветитьI own three Nikon SB 910 for a long time but hardly ever use them ever. Just too much fussing around with settings and all that kind of stuff and the draining of double AA batteries, I saw a secondhand Profoto A1 and bought it.
I played around with the A1 and now I own three of these great and easy-to-use flashes. To those who say Godox is the way to go, I have to disagree because as I see it there're too many buttons to set your Godox just like my Nikon flashes. To save money ok but not the ease of using the Godox........... I'm all the way for Profoto and ok it costs more but after buying and using the A1 it makes you forget how much you've paid for these magnificent flashes.
I also bought a Profoto Click Octa for portraits, I love to take portraits in natural light but now I'll be using a couple of A1 flashes too, never thought I would be using flashes while taking portraits.
I did use my Nikon flashes for bird photography, I set up my flashes and used a couple Pocketwizards to activate the flashes and that is easy to set up.
Really happy with my Profoto Flashes😄
I am a mirrorless canon user, and recently bought profoto b10’s and just ordered the new a2. previously have godox ad200, 180, v1, etc. and tried a10 and thought it was great but for canon, hands down the best on-camera flash has been the EL-1 for me. the integration with eye af and exposure has been sooooo reliable in ettl mode. .9 sec recycles at full power, built in fan for extended runtime. comes with cto and diffusion attachments. uses the same charger as the R batteries (not the same battery though). So I’d say for Sony or the other camera brands Profoto A10 is probably the best, but for canon the EL-1 wins hands down. I shot a graduation ceremony in a church and was just banging out flash after flash after flash and the canon really held up, it did to start to slow down at the end but from my experience the V1 used in similar circumstances crapped out in a matter of minutes and I haven’t used a Profoto in that situation it’s very likely it would’ve failed a lot sooner as well because there’s no fan built-in.
ОтветитьAmusing video. You obviously love Profoto. I love my Godox flashes, inexpensive enough that if by chance I break one (due to a stand falling over, etc then they are relatively cheap to replace) Profoto menu systems look great but really once you set the strobes once on individual channels the only thing we really change are channels on and off and flash power. Push a large button for a channel and spin a wheel. Not sure how that qualifies as difficult on the Godox system. I have a range of Godox/Flashpoint units but I primarily use the AD300's on location and the AD400's in the studio. Both units are relatively compact and recycle at roughly the same speed as Profoto units. Not knocking the Profoto units I just don't see any real use advantages for the price difference.
ОтветитьReason number 7 for me = my Phase One XF has built in trigger
ОтветитьYou left out another big A1 / A1X / A10 advantage and that is the focus assist array it puts out.
It’s one of the few that works on mirrorless cameras and really helps with AF on the dance floor at weddings.
Profoto definitely worth it. So much easier to use and consistent quality
ОтветитьF. profoto 😊my flash is nikon SB 800 own it for years . never let me dpwn . iv been 9n the pjotography Buiseness for over 46 years. .
ОтветитьThe godox V1 beats the A1, A1X, A10 almost on every spec, and you can buy 3-4 of them, for the Profoto price.
ОтветитьIt doesn't support panasonic?
ОтветитьHI! HOW TTL SET UP FOR NIKON.IT'S ALL WAYS DIFERRENT LIGNT COMING OUT ?
ОтветитьGreat tutorial. I did not know most of the items that you discussed. Much appreciated, sir.
ОтветитьAgreed !
ОтветитьGreat Video
ОтветитьYou obviously never used SONY flashes on SONY cameras such as the A1 or the A9III. As a SONY shooter, I would like to use Profoto if they only could properly talk to my A1 and A9III. It's the communication of the flash processor with the camera processor, where SONY's flash is far superior, which leads to far more efficient use of the flash energy. As a SONY user, I found no speedlight , which better integrates than SONY's HVL-F60RM2 with my A1 and A9III. Just put it on the cameras hot shoe and start shooting in any mode. No fiddling, nothing. This is by far the best speed-light for SONY cameras. Nothing comes close. Period. With the A9III, I can shoot at up to 120fps, at 1/16000, f/1.8, ISO 250. No missed pictures, all in focus. The flash automatically adjust the exposure to where you focus the camera while tracking a fast moving object.
ОтветитьFor a moment at the beginning I tough it was goodox v1 😅
Great video! You convince me to purchase it!
I’d rather profoto over godox only because the misfires I experience with Godox drive me insane when I miss a shot I really liked but the flash doesn’t off makes me wanna break it lol
ОтветитьFYI Eneloop rechargeable batteries last just as long as a Profoto battery and if you don’t know about them by now that’s concerning.
ОтветитьDo you know anything about compatibility issues with the Sony Alpha cameras? it looks like there is an issue no one talks about. Thanks!
ОтветитьThere is a known issue of draining battery on standby for the A1.
ОтветитьIt feels great like your wearing a levi's 501 jeans that hits all the girls hehe! but just dont forget bring back-up like Godox tt600 & you will be alright.
ОтветитьMy 2 cents… After using Quantum’s Instruments (QFlashes & Turbo Batteries) for over 25 years, I glance at the latest “wonder flash” and say half the power of what I’ve got, and half of the durability equals a pass on this wallet draining trinket. These Profoto toys are even less worthless to me as I’m a manual mode shooter. At events, weddings etc., I feel pretty confident that a loose drunk or unattended children running about, that my Quantum’s will SURVIVE the encounter. Hell, even the T5D-R’s would have more durability the this device would probably fair better when driven hard. Spend your money anyway you like, I’ll stick with what works(for me)… Good luck guys!
