My parents got me this game and it was awful. Buggiest trash game I owned when I was a kid.

I'd actually recommend using stopspell on the Wraith Knight intsead of sleep since it has zero resistance to stopspell.

Started a game minutes ago : played un til level 3. Saved : reset : works. Stop, load : works. Tried again...
Saved, told myself : ok, now I test the long save duration of the battery.
Left the game console off (NES) for 5 minutes... and it's GONE! Dead battery after all.

So this game is basically grind like hell which isn't too surprising considering it's one of the first RPGs on a home console

Do the names work on the modern remakes? Like in iOS?

Dragon Warrior, man I love this game. Akira’s art is iconic. DQ3 is hands down one of the best games ever.

The level 4 grind is faster with this trick. The risk is low too. There is a single strip of harder enemies just southwest of the castle. Scorpions magidrakees magicians ghosts. A gift from the programmers. Walk a few tiles west of Tangel. Walk south into those hills. The bottom row as far as you can walk south is where that group resides. Get low on health, one step north is slimes and maybe a drakee. Easy escape. Fast MP refresh. Fast leveling

fun fact, the Fighter's ring was meant to give a plus 5 to attack even in the NES version, but its bugged and doesnt do anything on the NES and Switch.

This video brought so many great memories. I got this game when it came out but it was my dad who got addicted to it. I remember many late nights he would still be playing it. For a long time he got frustrated because he couldn’t find the way to cross over to the Dragon Kings island. Finally he got it but was completely maxed and OP’d so it was bittersweet because he succeeded but by then it was not really a challenge 😂. My dad passed away a few years later but it is a great memory to have and my cartridge still has his game file. ❤

When I was just a lil NES kid I invested hours and hours days and days playing dragon warrior. I never beat it until I returned to it on emulator as an adult. It's the game that got me into RPGs. This walkthrough is awesome.

Fun Fact: The Dragonlord is also the very first final boss in video game history that has a transformation

This is reminding me just how much of this game is grinding. Dragon Warriors 2 and 3 were better at mixing adventures with levelling up

My mom did the Nintendo Power deal when I was a kid and DW was my first RPG. I remember getting the infinite treasure glitch and I thought it was just something wrong with my individual cartridge. It's crazy how much of this game I still remember

Wanted Nintendo Power. Got the magazine and some cool looking fantasy game with an awesome map and a booklet that described some amazing gear, that I wanted immediately. That was 30+ years ago. Haven't seen a Nintendo Power in decades, yet I just finished the latest Dragon Quest. What an experience.

This game was my favorite game Nintendo game when I was a kid. I remember getting home from Elementary school and playing this game

For early grind theres a spot to the south close to castle that lets you fight magidrakees n stuff without having to trek too far.

You seem to overlook the loss of the King's respect when you die. More importantly though is the loss of forward progress, which in some cases is more frustrating than the gold lost!

Also, try the randomizer! It's great!

I got this game on my switch a couple months ago. I got pretty far but I just didn’t know what to do and quit it.

Taking me all the way back to childhood. I remember this game as being the first game to ever become my favorite. I still play this game to this day. How you're buying magic keys at lvl. 7 is beyond me. I didn't travel through that swamp until lvl. 10 lol.

Oh my... I had NO idea it was free at one point. I got this as a kid when my dad said it was sitting in lost and found at his grocery store. I would have never had this experience had it not been for him bringing it home. I LOVED this game as a kid.

After defeating the Dragon Lord, go visit the towns, instead of heading directly to see the king. There are some additional special messages you will get from the townspeople.

I this is a code for dragon warrior -vvpylt Im not understanding it or of it can be used being as it only has 6 places, not 8. How might one use it if possible. Thanks.

Awesome game. One of my favorites on the Nintendo. By the way, back in 2009, my Brother-In-Law told me that the cursed belt can kill you if you wear it for too long. Same thing with the death necklace. I tried it, but it didn't happen to me though. Maybe I just don't wear it long enough.

I'd love to see a reissue of the official guide along with a map so you could follow it. I love seeing the stats of the monsters and items. Adds to your imagination while playing.

I could be wrong but money grind should be done against gold scorps.

THis game holds a special place in my heart. First rpg I ever enjoyed. I remember grinding to level 25 which was the first time I realized I loved rpg mechanics and grinding to be the most powerful I could be. Really wish the originals would come to psn like the ff pixel remasters. Great series here!

This is really cool. The way you talk about this game and the grinding you have to do gives me a totally new perspective on grinding in general. It’s almost exciting to grind for levels this way, strategically and make your way further and further out of the homebase.

I never would have gotten into RPGs unless Nintendo Power had done that give away.

I was confused about how the game works at first as I'd never played an RPG before. Luckily, the game came with a guide and some "getting started" tips.

I remember getting bodied by the monsters at first because I wandered too far from the castle before knowing what to do.

I LOVE this game. You never forget your first RPG.

I'm enjoying this game so far I got to lv 8. It's definitely a game that lives up to a grindy reputation. But it's still awesome

There are two alternate endings, though one is super insignificant. One ending is that you can rescue the princess from the dragon and, instead of returning her home, you take her and fight the final boss.

The other ending involves not rescuing the princess at all and beating the game.

Did you ever agree to join forces with The Dragonlord? He sends you to rule over the darkness or something like that them awake in one of the towns at the Inn as if it were a nightmare. Kinda cool punishment for joining forces with darkness.
