The tall, large candle that is placed near the baptismal pool in church is known as the Easter, the Paschal or the Christ Candle. Blessed anew each year at the Easter vigil fire, it represents Christ, the light of the world, who has overcome sin and death, dispelled the darkness, and now, as the Risen Christ, offers light, victory and hope to all the world. Processed into a darkened church to the chant of "Christ our Light", we chant a rejoice song called the Exsultet, rejoicing in Christ, the light of the world, represented by the lit and blessed Christ candle.
