It is aluminum angle; 6063 I think. I can't speak too much to how well it has held up over time since it has spent most of its time sitting unloaded. One issue that definitely crops up comes from the expansion of the wood. It can go from overly tight to being loose fairly easily. I am building a CNC with this though and am probably a couple weeks away from having it running. I should have a better idea after that. :)
