Wow! Amazing to see all the comments happening around this topic. I guess I’m not the only one feeling some frustration around this. Thanks for tossing your perspectives in everyone, and keep ‘em coming! It helps me understand where the public opinion sits, and that informs my video content. Feel free to leave me a reply here if there’s something specific you’d like me to know!

Hmmm…no ads, good quality programming, for low cost is a pipe dream? Need for revenue means tacking on fee after fee? Only now we can segment what we like a little more?

Too many word, spoken incessantly, over-saturates the listeners ~ pausing is mandatory. This is why your voice is so strained ~ overuse. If you are willing to learn to use less words to convey your message, it is a win/win.

Way too many providers fighting for finite viewers. They need to keep finding revenue streams and in the end become profitable again before expanding.

Greed is what drives the USA economy, the more company gets the more they want. The consumers need to boycott them and hold their feet in the fire. Time to get back to reading a book or going for a walk and get away from the boob tube. When it was just cable you viewed to your heart's content, now if your internet plan is not unlimited (Cox , Xfinity) you're screwed to excess data fees.

Besides torrent files, I STILL keep my old PS 3(!!!) connected to my TV to play my Blu-Ray boxes of Battlestar Galactica, X-Files, Fringe and shows I care about ON MY OWN TERMS. "What if the physical media gets damaged" you ask? All of them are ripped and stored on dedicated hard drives anyway...

Been watching more and more DVDs like the old days..there is an opportunity cost lost to the time you spend watching ads that doesn't even make "free" worth it.

I remember signing up for Hulu and Netflix in 2009 and loved it, because I paid for what I only I watched. Now, it’s like cable 100’s of things on, but almost nothing to watch.

Just me.

I keep thinking that DISH, DIRECTV & Cable will have to go to an ala cart system. If they do that I believe they could win subscribers back. I am not a fan of any of this right now - streaming, cable or Dish. I feel like I am paying for content that I don't want to support.

Cable TV is and was the worst. The problems with customer service, billing discrepancies, and over all experience made it trash. They couldn't even program it so you knew what you had for channels. You had to manually go through 1000 channels and favorite what you actually had access to. Then it might change the next month.

I think your right though you pay far more for streaming but no commercials with most services. Netflix used to be amazing before everyone pulled the licenses. Still I can't see ever going back to the horrid experience of cable TV.

Back to Basics, Torrent! DVD Stores, CDs, Hard Disks, New versions of these apps to disable ads like ads block! enough is walking in the street without seeing Ads, metro, radio, EVEN GAMES!! I don't think all these companies will keep going, I don't care much about most of the shows, I buy the physical ones, even games opt for the physical product of everything including games, and maintain old devices that no longer receive updates. I keep a neat mint in case laptop ready to fire up with SSD station with all my favorite content. Yes it's not that accessible from everywhere, but I can do some work arounds. I rewatch the same shows anyway!

I cut the cable cord back in 2008....no regrets whatsoever. Since then I've been completely happy with Netflix, a Roku box and the internet. That's it. I conservatively estimate that in the past 16 years I've saved at least $24,000 calculated as follows: 16 years = 192 months @ $125 per month. The pay streaming services have only grown greedier over time and I'm so thankful I never signed up with any of them.

Imagine the same magnates sitting around figuring out they can extract maximal revenue from streaming just as they had previously done with cable tv. The end result? It will devolve to maximal mediocrity, at least in terms of user experience.

And then the media industry complains about piracy like they are innocent little angels and how unfair it is TO THEM.

Piracy exists because of the media industries behavior. Every single point you make is a reason why people pirate content. If the media industry want to stop piracy all they need to do is stop being such bone heads.

I can go through the longest list of available programs -- and not see a single thing I'm interested in watching. Ads -- if I see one, I exit whatever it is I might have decided to watch. I'm too old for the crap. I can afford DVDs and have enough of them to keep me happy for decades, and I have the money to afford to sample DVDs that others have recommended; I can always donate them!

Streaming allows you to pay for only the content you want. Unlike cable TV. I pay far less for streaming than we did for cable and we can use the streaming at all our homes so we don’t have to pay for multiple cable packages. But still looking to going back to terrestrial TV and cutting back further on streaming as they continue to jack up rates.
