I spent the night here (even though you're not supposed to) and wasn't seen by anyone. It was incredibly magical, and I feel, so underrated
ОтветитьI read recently about how maize was very rapidly cultivated from a very marginal producer of grain into the massive cobs we have today, and that much of that work happened before the modern era. Is it known if Cahokia was taking advantage of a new kind of recently developed maize plant that had larger cobs and greater yields? That would certainly support a population increase as described. In addition, specialized plant varieties are often subject to drastic effects from disease, and this could help explain the depopulation, if such a 'plant plague' occurred. I had always assumed that like so many precolumbian civilizations, the cause of Cahokia's decline and disappearance was European disease, but you have shown me it was already gone hundreds of years before europeans arrived in North America.
ОтветитьI had to google what CE meant. Why not use AD like everyone else?
ОтветитьWe weren't building mounds, we dug lakes so we could fish and get away from our women's for a while
ОтветитьWelch's pots, w construction looks like a Scott dig
ОтветитьNo matter where you dig - pottery. Yet we are carpeting the earth with 3 layers of plastic bottles. Evolution was a thepry
ОтветитьSo about 75% of this is conjecture.
ОтветитьOkay so there's no current evidence to back up my statement. But here in central illinois. There is a site that used to have lot of old cars on it from an old guy. Story is this land was tested by the epa for contaminated water. They found some artifacts and found that the hill this house and land sits on is a man man mound, supposedly bigger than Cahokia. This is coming from a local archeologist. They did one did and they owners wanted them off the land.
ОтветитьWhat about the mounds in moundville Alabama
ОтветитьThe name has not been lost just ask
Ho chunk Casinos and KIA car company 😴😴😴😴😴😴
I attended school in Illinois in the 1960s. Our class took a field trip to the mounds. At that time, human remains (as if it were part of an excavation) were still on public display. Our 6th grade class was well prepared for what we saw and were respectful. That wasn’t true of all the groups coming through, with some kids shrieking or laughing like it was a haunted house attraction. Now as a retired schoolteacher I put that fault on the teachers of those classes. No preparation for their group and zero respect. I’m glad that the days of the freak show are over. I’m just beginning to watch but I’m wondering if this is addressed in the video.
ОтветитьBlack colony
ОтветитьHas any effort been made to correlate the position of magnetic north at that time with the alignment of the city? A shaman with imported magnetite could have been influenced by its behavior to align the city away from true north. Or maybe they got it wrong and it was too late to fix it.
ОтветитьC.E is not even how people measure time anymore that was like a thing the Smithsonian tried in 2003
ОтветитьThe chunkey stones look like the stones used in the modern sport of curling
ОтветитьThe story about the Powell family is absolutely heartwrenching, they destroyed thousands of years of history for no reason.
ОтветитьIt's in our hand goes story 😂 lol the gambler and time of enslavement from another colonizer
ОтветитьI was in Cahokia, Il, repairing flood damage at a coaling facility there. I learned of the mounds while there. Very interesting! The size of them, and the wide area covered is amazing!
Would have liked to have seen this video before i saw it, or at least while!
Well put together. Very good introductory video. I believe there is a cultural center on site, they might be interested in this, also the American Center for Archeology is not far away from Cahokia, in Kampsville. ✨🙌👍
ОтветитьIt is confusing to me as to how ancient people all over the world were intelligent and knew much about astronomy but were still savage enough to murder people because of "sacrifice." This is why I believe in the Ancient Astronaut Theory. It is not that ancient people learned out about astronomy on their own. It was given to them. Why would educated people have such superstition to sacrifice people? It is because these "gods" led them to believe that sacrifice was essential for crops and stuff. These gods were the extra terrestrials all over the world who were just screwing with human beings. All religions come from these extra terrestrials.
Ответить200 hundred years and then it disappeared. It seems to have been a rarity or perhaps the only metropolis of its kind in North America.
ОтветитьGod Bless the American Bottom 🫡 🇺🇸
ОтветитьThere was a native history that discussed the downfall of Cahokia called the Red Record. But it was "debunked" by a white guy in the 90s looking for a PhD thesis.
ОтветитьExcellent!
Ответить🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤

ОтветитьIs it possible that cohokians move dearing the summer to the Noth and south for winter because of the cold weather
ОтветитьFJB .................
ОтветитьI'm a little unclear on the effect Cahokia had on the wider Mississipian co-culturists and their descendants down to the time of European impact. For example, we see clear Cahokian influence at Aztlan and other contemporary sites. But what about after Cahokia's collapse? Did the loss of its leaders' legitimacy locally extinguish its impact globally? Are there oral histories or mythologies of Cahokia? (I'm especially interested in this last question.)
ОтветитьThis is the history of the so called African Americans who are miss classified as black this was the way to separate us from our ancestral lands
Ответитьhow have i gone 29 years alive without ever learning about Cahokia..
ОтветитьYou lost me at C.E.
ОтветитьNative Americans did not get bow and arrow technology from the West. Your history is flawed.
ОтветитьMy Uncles Brother was Director of the Museum at the site for a good many years (uncle married into family). Definitely worth a visit along with Monks Mound if you’re in the area, I went to school in the area growing up and am always surprised when other people don’t know about it considering how big the site’s population was, it always felt like a major capitol of a mix of tribes was the vibe I remember from all my visits
ОтветитьUNESCO? What a shock.
ОтветитьWhaaat?! Climate change in "prehistoric times?" Also, if the old name was lost how do you know it had a different one?
ОтветитьChunkey Is wat originated hockey but of course they had to take it of the land into a building and accommodate the ice people..to keep the orginial man and women from dominating it as they have with every other outdoor sport 💯
ОтветитьI'm very fascinated by Cahokia/the Mississippi culture that predates 1st hand Western documentation. I enjoyed this history and you caught my attention/curiosity with a few things that were new to me, like the Emerald Site!
What really flumoxes me is the narrative that history/legacy of Cahokian civilization doesn't exist in the histories of indigenous civilization less than 200 yrs later, when Europeans started infiltrating the continent. With this culture influencing cummunities from the Mississippi Delta to the navigational heads of the river system, how is it possible that there is a complete and total amnesia among the dozens (if not hundreds) of communities/tribes that either participated in or were influenced by Cahokia?
Wonder how an empire of Cahokia would be like had it survived and stabilised multiple kingdoms and feuds through a network of trade by the river like a Nile or to very small degree Mediterranean
Ответитьbottom, hihi
ОтветитьI dont know when we switched from using BC and AD, but we could switch back anytime
ОтветитьWho were the Cahokia and their descendants today? The people they label as "native American " are not descendants of the Cahokia nor all the other mesoamerican cultures and civilizations. Seems like you all love to hide the Truth.
ОтветитьThanks to the purchase by the US Government, not Thomas Jefferson. Really?
ОтветитьThe book of mormon talks about these ancient civilizations. Many don't know the real history of north and south America
ОтветитьDon’t you really mean AD?
ОтветитьVery interesting! I heard about these people before but never learned about them. One thing that’s confusing, was the CE time frame even farther back from BC (before Christ)?
