My sugars are high first thing in the morning than say 12pm before I break my fast. I read this is because the liver is working hard while I’m asleep to get rid of stored sugar?

So my blood sugar went up after I quit nursing my twins. From an average of 80 on my cgm* to an average of 100. I have to wonder if my body was storing sugar as a survival mechanism for breastfeeding and once I weaned it decided to dump it. I feel like after 4 months after weaning and on a ketogenic diet that it would come down but it hasn't budged. It's consistently in the 100's all day. Am I still dumping sugar after 4 months or is there a hormone imbalance at play? I was carnivore before pregnancy and Paleo during pregnancy. I did consume a ton of carbs while nursing because I was sleep deprived and felt like I was starving to death.
*I wear a cgm for hypoglycemia which has been resolved with the addition of a b complex everyday.

Does anyone know what to do if you are opposite with blood sugars? I am not finding any information on this in videos or the "Fast Like a Girl" book.
I am wearing a CGM and my glucose is in the 50's a few times at night and I wake up usually in the 70's/80's. Once I am up and moving, it tends to go up a little bit and hovers in that range. It does not come down. The range is between 60 and 80. Anyone else experience the same?

So if it goes up with just drinking water 5-10 mg… does it pull you out of a fasted state or should you keep going on a 3 day fast?

I finally broke through! I went through the higher glucose levels at first. It took me about a month to get bs to go down and ketones to go up enough to see higher ketosis and to lose lbs. I remembered Dr Mindy saying don’t give up and just keep fasting. Also, I was still not COMPLETELY off of sugar. Once I got in my head that even the smallest amount of sugar was hindering progress the switch flipped! Just like she said it would! I also increased my fasting period to 36 hrs once a week(18:6 normally) and even stretched to 42 and that was like a rocket went off!! 🚀 soooo in longer fasts I’ll lose about 3lbs and then 1 lb everyday if I don’t eat sugar or carbs and get protein and fiber. 🎉 it’s blowing my mind! But I had a ton of stored sugar from years of eating like crap! You just have to change your mind about food! Prayers for you all and thank you Dr Mindy! I want you to know I’ve been telling all of my girlfriends about you and sending out videos to anyone who will watch! Your mission is my mission here in Amarillo, Texas!! Love you!!❤

Hi friends, I’m trying to find out what is the amount of ghee and peanut butter we can eat to prolong a fast for a bit longer. Is it like a tablespoon filled with some of each or is that just wishful thinking? I don’t have my keto mojo yet to check my numbers after having this so I need to know how much I can have. Thank you to anyone who can answer this. 😊

Thank you Dr. Mindy for your explanation and to the readers who shared their experiences. I used to have my blood sugar around 95. About a year ago, I started to do intermittent fasting 16 hours fasting and in low-carbs diet. My blood sugar gets quite high in the morning, up to 12:00 pm at 110. It goes down to 95 later. My doctor said that I’m diabetes after seeing my fasting glucose level. My HbA1C is 5.7. I got a bit panic but I feel ok now, after watching your video. But I wonder how long that will take to lower my fasting glucose because I’ve done intermittent fasting and low carbs for a year now. I’m not overweight at all.

I did some hrs of working and walking and a 1.5hr nap, then tested by around 4pm after a nap, and became 78. is it still a good sign that my 48 HR fasting is still working. Pls Note that The 10am Bg test was the 45hr of fasting. Many thanks Doctor for any feedback. Im doing my fasting just to prove to my loveones and colleagues how effective it is, so to encourage them too..

Thank you so much for this video! Needed to see this video because I started 16:8 Intermittent Fasting back on 090123. In the first 3 months I saw my glucose go down but in the 4th month, my glucose shot up to a fasting of 185 (I’m a type 2) and nothing I did helped, varying fast lengths including 2 different days of a 24 hour fast. Also in the fourth month my body felt very comfortable fasting. I decided to try a 72 hour fast and boom! I saw glucose drop to a healthier level of 107 fasting. I have been eating low carb and exercising plenty. The high glucose I was experiencing must have been glycogen stores in liver and elsewhere dumping out into my bloodstream. I feel fantastic now and know IF is my permanent lifestyle. I’m no longer on any diabetic meds. It’s a wonderful journey! Thank You Dr. Mindy! You’re Awesome and Very Inspirational!

Thank you Dr. Mindy for all your amazing work! I am on month 3 of the protocol and have FLAG on my bedside table :)
Question! What’s the deal with blood sugar spiking during the fasting window? Today for example at hour 16 of fasting my glucose was 89 and my ketones were 0.9. At hour 19 of fasting glucose has spiked to 99 and ketones dropped to .5.

Also 4 hours after eating 2 eggs, 1/2 avocado and 1/2 cup Swiss chard glucose levels were up to 94.

Curious what’s up with this and what I should know/do! Thank you!

I broke fasting that day out of scare as I am on metaformin nd telma meds. Else i was feeling so active nd good in fasting state.

However once I eat food I feel tired... as v south indians do eat rice😢. Slowly will change my diet.

Thank you for making it so simple to understand. I have been following your videos/books and fasting for 2 months and just purchased a glucose monitor. At first I was so upset when I saw that my numbers were 109 or 108 upon waking in the morning and they only went down to high 90s a few hours later before eating. I do know that I am eating more carbs then I should.( I am a sourdough bread maker and dessert baker)I am working on learning to handle it better. But, it all makes sense! Thank you for your information! Love feeling better and losing weight and going through menopause more easily than before fasting.

Anyone have a headache for days after a 36 hour fast and also higher bs readings? I usually feel great after a fast but did my first 36 hour fast and haven’t felt well since. Thought maybe high BS was causing headache but not any higher than when I started keto 14 weeks ago. Bs around 135 consistently whether eating or not. Previous to 36 hr fast bs would drop to 115 after 8 to 10 hours.

I’ve been doing fast like a girl protocol for about a month now. When I started my fasting blood sugar was between 130 and 140. And I’ve been getting it down in the 90s or low hundreds recently but we went on a three day mini vacation this weekend. No foods were available that were clean so I did my best to make the best choices, except for chips and salsa when we did Mexican And I was wondering what my levels would be when I got home. This morning my blood sugar was 111 which isn’t great, but it’s not as the bad as it was and I had only gained about a pound, which was great because I had lost almost 10, so I couldn’t really see results which is so encouraging.

Dear Dr. Mindy, your guidance and knowledge are being a life changer for me. I´m currently reading your book and I've never been so motivated fasting (I did it before, and failed because I wasn´t doing it right). A MASSIVE thank you for helping women understand all these changes that occur in our bodies after their 40s and for your generosity in sharing all this information in an easy, fun, and super clear way. This is my 4th-week fasting (I started with 12 hours, and increased 1hr per week) and the miracle is already happening, I was totally hopeless. This video has been particularly helpful, This morning I had glucose measured (during fasting) and got 106 mg and I almost had a mini heart attack. Thanks for having us covered!! With love and appreciation, Guadalupe.

how about Glucagon pushing BG up when BG is already elevated? if one is in keto/fasting, then insulin is low and unable to move the excess glucose out of the blood. What's the resolution? exercise? Big Pharma products?

Thanks Dr Mindy, I had to search to find this answer. I’ve been IF for 1 year and keto for 2 years. Tracking glu/ket for 5 mos has made a huge difference. I’ve been able to accomplish ketosis consistently not a deep state but sufficient enough for weight loss. I’m at my goal weight of 140lb 5’8”.
I’ve been trying to find my best fasting schedule for myself and just finished a 36 hr fast. My glucose has remained around 100/ 99/97 over this fast. My ketones were 1.5 after 28 hrs. I was confused. Longer fasts get my glucose as low as 74. So I am comforted by this information and it makes me realize how I do need to continue both IF and ketogenic diet. One last note, after reaching my goal weight, I see my body needs to regain some muscle. I have increased my protein in my daily diet (aiming for 75-90 Gm). Hard to do. Also wondering if this is the cause of the higher glucose levels during this 36 hr fast? Also I drink LMNT on this 36 hr water fast. I’ve never noticed the Stevia in it increasing my glucose. Others are saying it does. Any info would be helpful. Thank you, so very much. ❤

Still confusing to me as I've been eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly for the last 20 years. Hoping genetics aren't playing a bigger part than I think as my mother and her father both have Type 2 diabetes.
